Congratulations to Amy Egan, Class of 2025, Jesus and Mary Secondary School who was awarded an Entrance Scholarship Award in recognition fo her exceptional Leaving Certificate results achieving over 600 points. Amy is now studying Pharmacy at ATU, Sligo and is pictured with principal Ms Hamilton and Dr Orla Flynn, President of ATU.

The late Francis Tivnan

The death took place of Francis Tivnan, Woodlawns, Enniscrone, Co Sligo on Tuesday, January 27 last. Francis was predeceased by his mother Bridget, father James, his brother Pat and sister Rosemarie. He was the beloved husband of Bridie.

Francis will be sadly missed by his wife, his siblings Breege, Margaret, James, Anne, Michael and Geraldine, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Francis reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina on Friday evening, January 30, from 5 until 6.30pm and his funeral arrived to the Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Enniscrone, for Requiem Mass at 12 noon on Saturday, January 31, followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass. May Francis rest in peace.

Flower Arrangement workshop

Fairy House Handicraft presents a flower arrangement workshop at Kilglass Parish Community Centre and Hub on Saturday, March 7, from 12 noon to 3pm. Join Zsuzsanna for a floral arrangement work shop using artificial flowers. This is a perfect chance for enthusiasts of all levels who want to enhance their skills and explore their creativity. Statement from Waterpoint

Waterpoint, Enniscrone has announced that for the remainder of the off peak season the facility will close and will reopen later in the year ahead of the peak 2026 season. During this time, significant essential upgrades and operational changes will be made. These will include improvements and renovations to the changing facilities and the communal areas as well as ventilation upgrades.

Existing members are assured that their membership will be frozen or refunded during this period. All members will be contacted personally to indicate their preference. Waterpoint thank the community for their ongoing support and they look forward to a rejuvenated Waterpoint opening later in the year.

The late Mary Mannion nee Rafter

The death took place of Mary Mannion nee Rafter, C11 Cahermore Holiday Village, Enniscrone on January 24 last, peacefully at her residence surrounded by her family. Mary was predeceased by her husband Michael Mannion, her daughter Joanne O’Donnell, her parents Eamon and Margaret Rafter.

Mary was the beloved mother of Frances. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, grandchildren, great granddaughters, brothers Edward and Joe, in-laws, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Valentines Disco

A Valentines Disco will be held in the Old Factory, Easkey, on Friday, February 13, from 6 to 8pm in aid of Rathlee and Killeenduff NS Parents Association. Admission is €5 per child and the disco is for U13’s only. There will be a tuck shop on site.

Rathlee students have a BLAST

Fifth and sixth class pupils from Rathlee National School have just finished taking part in the BLAST Art and Creativity programme, working alongside artist Karen Webster. The pupils explored a wide range of artistic techniques, including watercolour painting, creating their own sketchbooks, and using beach materials and clay to design ephemeral artworks. They also pressed seaweed and used it in gel printing, combining natural materials with printmaking skills. The programme encouraged creativity, experimentation, and problem solving, while helping pupils to develop confidence, observation skills, and an appreciation of art inspired by the natural environment. Most importantly, they had great fun.

Charity work presentation

Taylor O’Malley, a student of Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, was presented with a Garda Youth Certificate of Achievement by Garda Elaine McAndrew, in recognition of his wonderful charity work. Taylor used his musical talent to organise a concert, with all proceeds going to Hospice raising vital funds for this important cause.

Activator Poles

A six week programme commenced last week and will continue until March 10 from 11am to 12 noon at West Sligo FRC, Enniscrone. Come along and enjoy the fresh air, get active, and spend time with friends and maybe some new friends.

Safeguarding 1 Workshop

Registration is now open for a Safeguarding 1 Workshop which will be delivered online via Zoom on Tuesday, February 10, from 6.30pm to 9.30pm, and will be hosted by Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership. This essential workshop is suitable for coaches, volunteers, parents and anyone involved in sport or physical activity with young people, and it supports best practice in creating safe and positive sporting environments. Credit Union Art competition winner

Congratulations to Kevin Lee Sweeney, a second year student at Colaiste Iascaigh for winning first place in the National Credit Union Art Competition in the aged 14-17 category. Kevin was proudly representing the Ballina Credit Union. His art work truly stood out for its creativity, emotional depth, and powerful expression of the theme ‘The Future is …’ Out of over 25,000 entries nationwide, this achievement is a remarkable milestone for Kevin and a proud moment for his family, and the school. He received his award at Croke Park recently.

West Sligo AC AGM

West Sligo Athletic Club are delighted to invite all athletes, parents supporters and the public to their upcoming annual general meeting which will be held on Wednesday, February 4, at 8pm in the Ocean Sands Hotel, Enniscrone.

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw held on Sunday, January 25, were 15, 29 and 33. The €25 prizewinners were Jenni Ferrari, Brendan Henry, Padraig Colleary and Michal Mizerski. The jackpot in the draw held on Sunday, February 1, held in McNulty’s Bar was €11,000.

Dementia Awareness Workshop

A Dementia Awareness workshop will be held in West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone, on Wednesday, February 18, at 11am, 1pm and 3.30pm. Dementia is not simply a health issue but a social issue that requires a community response. A dementia inclusive community is one in which people living with dementia, their families and carers can live their lives well in an understanding and supportive society. By participating in one of the Dementia Awareness Workshops, this will give people an insight into how organisations, sporting clubs, businesses or individuals can help to build a Dementia inclusive community in their area. Women in Sport Leadership course

Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership are delighted to announce the return of this award winning bespoke course for female volunteers involved in various roles at club level. The aim of the programme is to provide training, guidance, and expertise to women in Sligo to thrive in their leadership positions in sport. It will give them the opportunity to learn additional skills, increase their confidence and build networks across sports. This is a six part course starting on Thursday, February 26 and will conclude to Saturday, March 28.

GAA lotto
