5th year students from Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, who walked the footsteps of thousands before them, part of their cultural and spiritual heritage, when they climbed Croagh Patrick last week.

Community Employment Information Morning

A Community Employment Information Morning will be held on Thursday, May 30, in Dromore West Community Centre from 10.30am to 12.30pm. The event is run by Tireragh Community Support and West Sligo Forum in conjunction with the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. Come along to find out more about community employment opportunities in your area. Have a cup of tea and a chat with local CE supervisors and participants in an informal setting. Community Sports Hub evaluation report

Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership were delighted with the turn out for the launch of the Enniscrone CSH evaluation report last week, and they extended thanks to Liz and Greg from West Sligo Family Resource Centre for hosting the event, to their special guest speakers Emer Concannon, chairperson SSRP Board, Dr Jessica Wang, Sport Ireland evaluation manager, Georgia O’Kane, senior consultant with S3 Solutions, Grainne Queenan, committee members Enniscrone and District Community Council, and Deirdre Lavin SSRP CEO.

‘We were delighted to see so many of the local clubs and community groups who joined us to hear the findings of this report, from Castleconnor Community Centre, Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC, Enniscrone Mens Shed, Enniscrone Kilglass GAA, Waterpoint, Swim Ireland, Seaside Crafters Women’s Group, RazorBacks Basketball Club, West Sligo Athletics Club, Enniscrone Surf Lifesaving, Water Safety Ireland Sligo – Sligo Sufe Livesaving, Tonnta Adventure and members of Enniscrone District Council. The report results and the event is a credit to all in the community who joined forces with SSRP over the last 3 years to create so many positive opportunities for people to become more active, said a spokesperson’.

Abhainn Studio

Abhainn Studio located at Pier Road, Enniscrone, opened in Summer 2023 and is fast becoming a hub for the creative community in Sligo. A fine art printing and framing studio, founder Noel Feeney is a graphic designer and creative producer whose goal is to showcase the many talented designers, creatives and artists in the west of Ireland.

Tidy Towns

Enniscrone Tidy Towns extend thanks to the Diamond Coast Hotel who helped with the local Spring clean activities in Enniscrone recently. ‘They were most generous with their time to help keep the beach and hollow clear of litter. They also supplied some fabulous soup and sandwich refreshments afterwards for all the volunteers participating’, said a spokesperson for the Tidy Towns.

Blotto

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on Sunday, May 5, were 1, 8 and 17. The €25 prizewinners were Sinead Tuffy, Andrina Rogan, Katie Gilligan and Padraig Colleary. The jackpot in the latest draw held on Sunday, May 12, in Hopkins Bar, was €4000.

U8’s and U10s training

The U8 and U10 stars of Eoghan Rua Ladies Football Club are back training in Stokane Community Park on Saturday mornings from 10-11am. If your child would like to get involved with the club, contact through private message on their Facebook page.

Toilets open for Summer season

Toilets in both the hallow and at the pier will remain open for the rest of the summer after Sligo County Council agreed a contract with a cleaning company to maintain them.

Eoghan Rua Ladies lotto

West Sligo Young at Heart

Whether it’s for flexibility, core strength or relaxation, join the West Sligo Young at Heart, Dromore West, on a Monday from 11am to 12 noon for chair yoga (they don’t only sit down, unless you choose to). If you are feeling more energetic, they have a variety of exercises and activities on Tuesday from 11am to 12 noon, whether it’s walking football, netball or kurling, a good laugh followed by a chat over tea. On Wednesday, from 10.30-12.30 there is always something different going on from sewing, crochet, to darts or cards and more, all with the most important chat, tea and great company. There is also plenty of books available to keep you reading at home.

Teens Skincare and Makeup Workshop

Lorraine Kilgannon is running a three week Skincare and Makeup Workshop at West Sligo Family Resource Centre for teens commencing Tuesday, May 21. Week 1 will cover a full skin care routine; week 2, make up routine and week 3, people bring their own make up and get tips on what works best. There is complimentary goodie bags on the last week, and the cost is €15 for the three weeks. Places are limited and it is a 1st come 1st served basis. Indoor Food and Craft Market

The Indoor Food and Craft Market will continue each Saturday in The Old Church, Enniscrone, from 11am to 3pm. It features a wide range of handmade gifts, paintings, home baking, fresh vegetables, bric a brac and local crafts.

West Sligo AC training

Training takes place on Monday evenings from 6 to 6.45pm on the astro for 8 to 9 year olds; 6.45 to 7.30pm on the astro for 10-17 year olds and at 7pm Fit 4 life in the West Sligo Family Resource Centre. On Wednesday evening, training is held from 6 to 6.45pm on the astro for 5 to 7 year olds and on Thursdays at 8pm for Fit4Life in the West Sligo Family Resource Centre.

Fun Dance Fitness

Fun Dance Fitness with Carmel continues at the West Sligo Family Resource Centre on Fridays from 11am to 12 noon. All ages are welcome and the cost is €8 per Bingo in Old Church.

Bingo

Bingo is held in the Old Church, Enniscrone, every Tuesday at 8pm with doors opening at 7pm with free tea and coffee on offer. The proceeds are in aid of Western Gaels Hurling and Camogie Club. All are welcome to come along and support and be in with a chance to win.

Buggy Buddies

The Buggy Buddies programme with Bernie Finley, in conjunction with Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership, meet on Wednesday mornings at 9.45am for a walk at 10am. The cost is €2 per session and the group meet at the Enniscrone Family Resource Centre. There will be indoor activities in the centre if conditions are too wet. All are welcome to come and join for a walk, a cuppa and chat.

The Wavy Crafters

The Wavy Crafters are a group of ladies who meet every Thursday morning at 10.30am in The Courthouse, Easkey, to share their enjoyment and knowledge of all things crafty such as knitting, crochet and sewing. Call 086 3153851 for further details.

Beginner Irish conversation classes

Beginner Irish conversation classes for adults is held every Thursday evening in the Old Courthouse, Easkey from 7pm. Come along and join Brid McGowan for a bit of chat ‘as Gaeilge’. All levels are wecome.

Handball

Castleconnor Handball Club had a great day out last week at Croke Park. The day started with two hours playing in the centre court and court number 1. The group went on to take the tour of the football grounds and museum. The tour guide Philip gave the background information in the preparation of the All Ireland final day, a magical experience for juveniles and parents. This memorable day out was sponsored by Jason Earlis.

GAA lotto
