Enniscrone Tidy Towns

It is clean up time. The Tidy Towns judges will be visiting Enniscrone in early June. The local volunteers have been doing up the flower beds and boxes, they have planted the new boat which was kindly donated by Paul Timlin, and the boat by the fire station as well as tidying up about the place.

Special thanks has been extended to Joan and David for tackling the overgrown shrub beds, however the committee don’t have the manpower nor the time to do everywhere in Enniscrone. They would greatly welcome help to get Enniscrone prepared for the judges. If there is an area near you that needs a tidy up, or grass cut, or hedges trimmed, or a lick of fresh paint – all help would be greatly appreciated and you will have improved your area.

Fond farewell to Ms Marie Moore

As the school year drew to a close, all at Jesus and Mary Secondary School bid a fond farewell to their wonderful colleague and friends, Ms Marie Moore, who has retired after 28 years of dedicated service.

Marie has been a cherished member of the school community, sharing her passion and expertise through the teaching of music and Irish.

Over the years, she inspired countless students to develop their musical talents, grow in confidence, and shine through school productions and performances. Her contribution to school life extended far beyond the classroom. Marie generously gave of her time to provide choir practices at lunchtime, organise music for school Masses and events, and run the ever-popular Board Games club. She also had a deep love for the environment, always encouraging recycling and sustainability within the school community.

All at JMSS will greatly miss Marie’s warmth, positivity, creativity, good humour and unwavering commitment, as well as her beautiful flower displays that brought colour and joy to so many school occasions. Her kindness and dedication have left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of working and learning alongside her.

Ms Moore is wished every happiness, good health and well deserved relaxation in her retirement.

Seamus brings play to Enniscrone

Indigestion, which is written and performed by Seamus O’Rourke, will be performed on Monday, July 27, as part of the Enniscrone Events and Black Pig Festival, at the Old Church, Enniscrone. The doors will open at 7.30pm and tickets are on sale at www.eventbrite.ie.

This play has been described as sensitive, hilarious, intelligent, absolutely compelling and refreshingly forthright. A man, whose name we never hear, tells us his story of a life, always slightly out of his control… The madness of a simple rural man, a man shipped off to London at the age of 17, who goes through bouts of depression, obesity and anger issues, finds and loses love, comes back to Ireland to more misfortune and mayhem and yet there is HOPE.

This is a story of hope, where laughter and tears join hands and race us through fifty years of a life, not much different to our own. This is Seamus O’Rourke doing what he does best, storytelling.

Western Gaels U14 hurlers

The Western Gaels U14 hurlers competed in the Tain Og Division 1 Final at the Connacht Centre of Excellence against a strong Tooreen side and they put in a gallant effort throughout the match. Despite netting five goals, the lads unfortunately came up a bit short on the night.

"From numbers 1 to 15, along with every player who came off the bench, the lads worked incredibly hard and should be extremely proud of their efforts - not only in the final but throughout the entire competition," said a spokesperson for the club.

The club congratulate Tooreen, who will now go on to represent the region in the national finals.

Stokane students visit Jackie Clarke Collection

The senior room children from Stokane NS had a fantastic visit to the Jackie Clarke Collection in Ballina recently, where they took part in an engaging workshop based on the 1798 Rebellion. They also enjoyed sampling some of the tasty herbs from the garden after.

All at Stokane NS extend thanks to Mike and all the team at the Jackie Clarke Museum for facilitating such an informative, interactive and enjoyable experience. The children learned so much through hands-on activities and storytelling.

Community Games

Castleconnor Community Games congratulate Tadhg Conlon who came second in the U10 Art at the county competition at the weekend. Tadhg will now represent Sligo at the Community Games National Finals in August.

Congratulations also to Aoibhe Cuff who was placed 3rd in the U12 art and to Bethan Kelly who was placed 3rd in the U14 art.

GAA All-Stars

The Castleconnor GAA All-Stars are held on Saturday mornings from 10.45am to 11.30am in Castleconnor Community Centre. There are fun games for children aged 4-12 years with additional needs and their siblings. Parents must stay and play. To book a place contact Bernie Finlay on 087-6164788.

Cumann na mBunscol competition

Well done to both the boys and girls teams from Stokane NS in the Cumann na mBunscol competition which was held in Scarden. The boys faced two very strong teams and despite some excellent football and a great effort throughout, they were unlucky not to come away with a win. However, they still look ahead to the shield final in a few week time due to high scoring.

The girls got off to a fantastic start with a win in their first game before narrowly losing their second match after another strong performance. Both teams showed effort, teamwork and sportsmanship and all at Stokane NS are very proud of them.
