Local Notes: Enniscrone native wins 'Volunteer of the Year' at the Ocean FM Sports Awards.

Work has been taking place along the Coast Road, Easkey, over the last few weeks Sligo Co Council stalled rock armour along the Coast Road in order to prevent further erosion and ultimately destroying the road that gives access to the Easkey Coastline.
There are many areas along this road that has become vulnerable due to erosion and this, it is hoped is the start to ensuring this beautiful scenic drive is preserved.
Easkey Enhancement Association extend thanks to EEA Sea and Coast Group for all the work they have put into this project. They are also grateful to Sligo County Council, Michael Clarke and Councillor Joe Queenan and everyone involved who helped secure the funding to start this work and recognise the importance of preserving Easkey.
The annual CCE Christmas Concert will take place on Saturday, December 7, at 7.30pm, in Dromore West Community Centre, in what promises to be an entertaining evening filled with lots of music, song and dance. All tickets will be entered into a draw for a hamper door prize. There will be refreshments and raffle on the night and admission is €10 and children are free.

Enniscrone Kilglass GAA club commenced an indoor coaching programme on Friday evenings at the Astro Turf at Quigabar and it will continue for another three weeks. U9’s from 6-7pm, U11’s from 7-8pm and U13’s from 8-9pm.
The annual general meeting of Eoghan Rua Ladies Football Club will take place on Tuesday, December 3, in the Ocean Sands Hotel and all members are invited to attend.

Third year and TY students of Colaiste Iascaigh had 4 teams competing in the Juvenile and Junior categories in an Olympic Handball tournament in ATU Sligo recently. This was their first experience playing this sport at a competitive level.
Both the juvenile boys and girls reached the final but were unlucky to narrowly lost out in two brilliant games. Colaiste Iascaigh extend thanks to all who competed and ot Olympic Handball Ireland and Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership for organising the event.

Lights will be switched on the Christmas Tree of Remembrance at Kilglass Parish Community Centre on Saturday, November 30, at 7pm. All are invited to come along to the event of remembrance and celebration which will begin with Mass at 7pm in Kilglass Church, honouring the memory of loved ones and offering prayers for the community’s intentions.
Afterwards, there is a gathering at Kilglass Hub for a festive community evening, where Canon George will officially switch on the Kilglass Christmas Lights. Eaksey Enhancement Association invite all to join them for an evening of Christmas celebration and fun on Saturday, December 7 at 5pm. The meeting place is at the Village Grotto car park where there will be Christmas Carols, Santa’s Grotto and the switch on of the Christmas lights.

Congratulations has been extended to Keeva Flynn, Sligo Rovers, who picked up the U17 International Player of the Year award on Thursday, November 14 last.
The 8 week Men on the Move fitness class programme is back at Castleconnor Community Centre on Wednesday evenings from 8-9pm and it will continue until December 11 and then from January 8 to 29. The cost of the eight week programme is €40 and it is partly funded by SSRP. Castleconnor Community Council are hosting their annual Christmas Party fundraiser on Sunday, December 22, from 11am to 2pm at Castleconnor Community Centre. This is a wonderful festive event that brings the whole community together while raising funds for the day to day running of the community centre. There will be a cake sale, raffles, music, face-painting, complimentary food and drink and you can also meet Santa.

The Castleconnor Amateur Dramatic Society had a great weekend recently in Carrigallen at the Corn Mill Theatre where they were delighted to have won 3rd place with their one-act play ‘The Act of Living’. In addition to that Louise Kavanagh was nominated for ‘Best Actress’ and Frank Barrett took home the award for ‘Best Actor’.
The group hit the road again on Thursday last when they performed in the Western Drama Festival, Tubbercurry.
