Local Notes: Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Easter Camp success.

Eighty boys and girls attended the two day Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Easter Camp which was held in Quigabar.
Everyone is invited to the Ocean Sands Hotel in Enniscrone for their first Chef’s Table local food and drink showcase event tomorrow Wednesday, May 7, from 10am to 1pm. It is a chance to meet the people who make these artisan products and taste their wares. Head chef Marcin Szczodrowski has created some delicious canapes using the local produce and everyone is invited to taste and try.
Exhibitors include Dozio Cheese Carracastle, Kelly’s Butchers Newport, Cnoic Glas Ballina, Mammy Johnson Strandhill and Easkey Organic Veg and Herb. Live music will add to the atmosphere and Ocean FM will be broadcasting live from the event. All the artisan producers involved are regular suppliers to the Ocean Sands Hotel who put a high value on supporting local.
Don’t forget Bike Week in Enniscrone will take place at the Family Resource Centre. All ages are welcome and for booking visit https//www.sligosportandrecreation.ie/bikeweek/. The upcoming schedule is as follows; May 15 Mens Shed Cycle from 2 to 3pm; Balance Bike Come and Try, from 3 to 4pm; Children’s Cycling Skills from 4.30 to 5.30pm; Spin to Zen from 6.30 to 8pm. On May 16, Spin and Splash from 6.30 to 8pm.
Well done to all the athletes from the West Sligo Athletic club who took part in the fantastic Easkey Castle Run, with superb performances from everyone involved. A special congratulations to Dessie Burke on finishing 1st in the 10km, a brilliant achievement. Well done also to the young athletes who completed their first 10km, a great milestone and a memorable experience for all.
Winners of the Easkey Castle 5k/10k/10 miles were Mens 1st Dessie Burke, 2nd Rory Gruddy, 3rd Philip McDonald; 1st local, Colm Tobin; Womens 1st Fiona Bohan, 2nd Fiona Stepleton and 3rd Grace Traynor; 1st local Siobhan Lawlor. The organisers of the races thanks Irish National Cross Country Champion Keelan Kilrehill for joining them on the day to present the winning prizes.
Well done to the Fred Daly team from Enniscrone Golf Club who had a brilliant win against Ballina Golf Club on Saturday, April 26. The final score was 3-2 with the pivitol point being won by Alex Kenny in Ballina on the 19th hold. Alex came back from 4 holes down on the front 9k to close out the win. Tom Horkan and Alex Cooke won their games at home. Next up for the lads is a tie against Castlebar next week.
A free taster Gentle Yoga Flow class with Sophie will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, May 7, from 7-8pm at West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone. A 4 week term is starting on May 14, from 7-8pm. The cost is €10 per class and to book contact 083 4798831.
Well done to the Intermediate footballers on their win over Coolera/Strandhill in the opening round of the league. Goals either side of the break by Eoin Tuffy and Oisin Finnerty helped the lads collect a 2-11 to 1-7 win at Quigabar. The lads played St Molaise Gaels on Saturdaly last in Grange.
It was a good weekend for the Junior B team, with the lads opening their Division 4B league campaign with a 3-15 to 3-13 defeat of Coolera/Strandhill. They meet Castleconnor this weekend for their next game.
The minors put in another encouraging display to grind out a 1-12 to 1-11 victory over St John’s in challenging conditions recently. The lads then played Geevagh/St Michael’s on Tuesday evening, April 29, in Ballintogther with a winning score of 6-8 to 3-14.
The U15s returned to league action on Monday, April 28 last with an away match against Tubbercurry/Cloonacool in Cloonacool.
The U13s had a great week with both teams picking up wins. The A team beat Drumcliffe/Rosses Point by 7-14 to 4-4, while the C team were 5-15 to 2-9 victors over St Farnan’s. The C team returned to action against St Molaise Gaels in Grange on Tuesday, April 29 last, where they picked up another win, while the A team were at home to Coolera/Strandhill on Friday, May 2.
The U9 and U11’s had another game on Tuesday, April 29 last at home to St Farnan’s.

Well done to Charlie Lynott who featured for the Sligo U16s in their win over Longford recently. Commisserations to Ethan, Eoin, Tommy and Greg on the Sligo U20s defeat to Roscommon in their Connacht semi-final. Well done to club referee, Michael Connolly, who was on Nicky Rackard Cup duty last weekend.
The lads from Enniscrone Men’s Shed are back on their bikes. Thanks to Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership and Brian for running a cycling class. It is not just the men from the shed, if any man would like to join on their cycle, come along to the West Sligo Family Resource Centre or the Men’s Shed on Tuesdays at 2pm. The class lasts 1 hour.
Creative writing workshops for adults will run each Tuesday, from 7-9.30pm in the Glencar TeaSHED, and will continue until June 10, led by award-winning author and poet Shane Leavy. The eight weekly workshops are €190. They are suitable for beginners or more experienced writers or poets, and tea and snacks will be provided. Well done to Michael Connolly from the Western Gaels Club, who took charge of the All Ireland U20C Hurling championship final at the weekend. Michael, was the man in the middle for the Andrew O’Neill Cup decider Ulster clash of Armagh and Monaghan which was played in Kingspan Breffni Park, Cavan.

Little Puckers, which is a class for boys and girls aged between 1.5 to 5 years with a unique Gaelic Games theme commenced in Easkey Sports Hall for 1.5 to 3.5 years on Saturdays from 10 to 10.40am and for 3.5 to 5.5 years from 10.45 to 11.30am. Activities will include chase games, movement games, introduction to Gaelic games, co-operation games and lots of fun. Leaffoney NS is a two teacher school with a special education teacher and a part time EAL teacher for children where English is not their first language. Castleconnor.
There has been some great achievements for some of the younger members of Castleconnor GAA club and fellow Castleconnor youngsters in lots of sporting activities recently. Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone have highlighted the great success for Ava Hallinan in her key role and Player of the Mastch with Ireland U15s, Paddy Reape and his Irish Show Jumping team win in the Youth Nations Cup and Jack Sexton for his great achievements in the World Dancing Championships. Keeva Flynn is also having great success with Sligo Rovers Women, and to all working hard in training and matches on the U15, U16 and U17 Sligo GAA squads. Well done to all.
The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on April 26, were 2, 7, 15, and 24.There was no jackpot winner. Match 3 winners were Enda and Michelle Geoghegan and the Lucky Dip winner of €50 was Catherine Gilroy. The jackpot in the draw which was held on May 3, was €11,700.
