Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Club members participated in the Beach cleanup on Sunday morning, July 7,in association with Enniscrone Tidytowns. Be litter aware when walking the beach and help Enniscrone Beach keep the Blue Flag.
The death took place of Brendan McGrath, Rathlee, Easkey, Co Sligo unexpectedly. Brendan was beloved husband of Dayna and adored father of Finn and Tadhg, treasured son of Joe and Mary and death brother of Ciaran, Margaret, Eugene and James. He will be forever missed by his heartbroken family, his grandmother Anne, mother-in-law Bernie, father-in-law John, sisters-in-law Valerie, Sarah and Clare, brothers-in-law Paul and Darren, nieces Lisa, Eva, Sarah and Kate, nephews Shane and Jack, his aunts, uncles, cousins, his wide circle of friends and teammates at Easkey GAA.
Brendan reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Wednesday evening, July 10, from 5 until 8pm and his funeral arrived to Star of the Sea Church, Rathlee, for requiem Mass on Thursday morning, July 11, at 11.30am, followed by burial in Roslea Cemetery. May Brendan rest in peace.
‘It is with deep shock and a heavy hear that we, as a club, committee members, players and entire community learned of the heartbreaking news on the sad passing of our senior player, coach and dear friend Brendan McGrath’, said a spokesperson of Easkey GAA Club. ‘Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Dayna, his sons Finn and Tadgh and all of the McGrath, Flannelly and Byrne families’.
‘Brendan was a long serving senior player, making his senior debut in 1998 and was currently playing in his 27th year of senior football including kicking 4 points on Friday evening’s, July 5, win over Geevagh. He excelled as an underage player, leading the team to U16, minor and U21 titles, along with winning an All Ireland Vocational Schools title’.
‘Brendan had an instant impact at senior level, helping the team to reach the senior final in 1999, before going on to win 3 intermediate titles, including captaining the team to the intermediate title in 2010 and was also part of our Connacht and Sligo Junior winning team that reached Croke Park. He also won an All Ireland title with Sligo in 2010’.
‘Brendan was also a truly dedicated clubman, he was a coach for our U7 and U9 teams, volunteered to help out with works to our club grounds and was always on the other end of the phone when we needed his advice or expertise. His passion and love for football and the club was incomparable’.
‘He will be sadly missed by all in Easkey GAA. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam’.

The death has taken place of Fred Henry, Leaffoney, Kilglass, Enniscrone, peacefully at Sligo University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Fred was predeceased by his siblings Violet, Sadie, Ivan, Leslie and Eric and his grandson Tommy. He was the beloved husband of Teresa and dear father of Caroline, Freddie, David and Suzanna. He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren Ceara, Michael, Aisling, Fiona, Maura, Seanie, Sean, Ellen, Grainne, Caitriona and Sadie, great grandchild Michael, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Fred reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Sunday, July 7, from 7 until 8.30pm and his funeral arrived to Kilglass Church of Ireland on Monday, July 8, at 12.30pm for a service followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Enniscrone.
The death took place of Christy Gray, Manchester and formerly of Cuffstown, Culleens, Co Sligo. He was predeceased by his father and mother Jim and Mary Gray, brothers Philip and Padraic, sister Eileen, nephews Travis, Jarvis and Philip.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Sadie, son Gary, daughter Tina and grandchildren, his brothers Bobby, Dessy and Raymond, sisters Tina and Ann, his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, extended family and a large circle of neighbours and friends. Requiem Mass was held in Kilglass Parish Church on Tuesday, July 9, at 7pm and his burial will take place in Manchester at a later date.
May he rest in peace.
Well done to all the athletes who took part in the Sligo Community Games finals. Everyone did brilliantly and should be very proud for getting to county finals and putting in such fantastic performances. The club extend thanks to all the parents for their support and encouragement, and especially Eamonn O’Malley and Enda Mulrooney for all their input with the training sessions. Thanks also to long serving committee member Martin McHale for volunteering on behalf of the area at the weekend, and to all the volunteers at county level for organising a great weekend and for all their support in the build-up.
The death took place of Kevin Kilcawley, Finod, Easkey, and formerly of Edgeware, London, peacefully in the care of the staff at Sligo University Hospital. Kevin was predeceased by his parents Peter and Margaret Ann, brothers Anthony, John, Paddy, Pete and Michael James, sisters Nora Ellen and Mai Kathleen.
He will be sadly missed by his brother Joe (Finod), nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. He reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Tuesday evening, July 9, from 6pm with removal at 7.30pm to St James’s Church, Easkey. Requiem Mass took place on Wednesday morning, July 10, at 11am followed by burial in Roslea Cemetery, Easkey. May he rest in peace.
The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on Sunday, July 14, were 20, 25 and 43. There was no jackpot winner. The €25 prizewinners were Mary and Johnny Bourke, Vincent Feeney, Thady McTernan, and Colm Kelly. The jackpot in the draw which was held in McNulty’s Bar, on Sunday, July 14, was €5800.

Bookings for the Waterpoint Summer Camp 2024 is now open. There will be three days of fun filled activities such as swimming, outdoor activities, rock climbing and arts and crafts. Water Safety Week with Water Safety Ireland, Sligo, will take place at Enniscrone Pier from July 21-26. This programme is Water Safety Ireland Certified and children will be taught essential lifesaving skills through theory and practical sessions.
Swim 1-5 is introduction to open water swimming and basic safety skills and is suitable for children aged 5+. Safety 1-4 is the introduction to personal safety and rescue skills and Rescue 1-4 entails rescue techniques and basic life support certification on completion of exam.

A Charity Sound Bath in aid of Mayo Cancer Support will be held on Wednesday, July 17, from 6.30-7.30pm and 8-9pm, at Abhainn Studio, Pier Road, Enniscrone. There are limited numbers for each session and booking is essential. €30 donation.
The Black Pig Festival 2024 will take place from July 25-29, with lots of music, art, comedy, theatre, fun fair and lots more. Some of the music and comedy acts are Tabby Callaghan and Wi-Fi, Clare Sands, Graham Sweeney, Mike Hanrahan and Bridin, Doppler, Easkey Punk Choir, Vinyl Paul, Ceoltas Trad Group, relish Records, Mike Denver, Rosie Connolly, Abhainn Studio and Friends, comedian John Colleary and Niamh McGrath’s ‘Gombean’.
Other activities are markets, busking, story telling, Tonnta Adventure, exhibitions, sandcastle competition, teenage disco, harbour sup, duck race, pig on the spit, Black Pig fun run 5/10km, Waterpoint kids triathlon, art workshops with Facets Studio, Lollipop apparel and Hullabaloo Sports Day with Kilglass Enniscrone Utd.

Cemetery Mass will be celebrated in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass/Enniscrone, on August Bank Holiday Weekend, Sunday, August 4, at 6pm; in Roslea Cemetery, Easkey, on Friday, August 2, at 7pm and in Dromore West Churchill Cemetery on August 4, at 12 noon.
The Indoor Food and Craft Market will continue each Saturday in The Old Church, Enniscrone, from 11am to 3pm. It features a wide range of handmade gifts, paintings, home baking, fresh vegetables, bric a brac and local crafts.
Whether it’s for flexibility, core strength or relaxation, join the West Sligo Young at Heart, Dromore West, on a Monday from 11am to 12 noon for chair yoga (they don’t only sit down, unless you choose to). If you are feeling more energetic, they have a variety of exercises and activities on Tuesday from 11am to 12 noon, whether it’s walking football, netball or kurling, a good laugh followed by a chat over tea. On Wednesday, from 10.30-12.30 there is always something different going on from sewing, crochet, to darts or cards and plenty more, all with the most important chat, tea and great company. There is also plenty of books available to keep you reading at home.
