Beach facility for Enniscrone

Councillor Joe Queenan is delighted to announce that planning permission with conditions has been granted for a ‘state of the art’ facility, which will enhance outdoor water-based activities to be built in The Hollow area, Enniscrone, convenient to the beach. Enniscrone is one of 22 facilities to receive part of the €19million Failte Ireland Fund. This funding will be used to provide hot showers, changing and toilet facilities, secure storage, induction spaces, equipment washdown and orientation points. It will be fully wheelchair accessible and built using sustainability practices.

The late Sarah Teresa Mullen nee Padden

The death has taken place of Sarah Teresa Mullen nee Padden, Pier Road, Enniscrone, peacefully at the Beechwood Nursing Home, Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow, in her 100th year. She was predeceased by her husband Bart, sisters Philomena, Bridget and Mary, her brothers Tony, Christy, Vincie, John, Willie and Tommy. She was the beloved mother of Christine (Wexford), Trudy (Enniscrone), Teresa (Carlow), and Edmund (Tampa, Florida).

Sarah Teresa will be sadly missed by her daughters, son, her ten grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren, her brother Larry, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Thursday, April 11, from 5 to 6.30pm and her funeral arrived to the Church of Our Lady Assumed Into Heaven, Enniscrone on Friday, April 12, for requiem Mass at 12 noon, followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Enniscrone. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Gaelic4Mothers&Others

Training is back on Monday evenings at 8pm in Enniscrone Kilglass GAA pitch. New members are welcome. Why not go along and try it out if you are over 25 years old. The Gaelic4Mothers&Others initiative sees women playing Ladies Gaelic Football in a fun, non-competitive and social environment. Any information required contact www.ladiesgaelic.ie. 

Skincare and Makeup Workshop

Lorraine Kilgannon is running a 3 week Skincare and Makeup Workshop at West Sligo Family Resource Centre for both adults and teens with the adults workshop commencing on Tuesday, April 30, and the teens workshops starting on Tuesday, May 21. Week 1 will cover a full skin care routine; week 2, make up routine and week 3, people bring their own make up and get tips on what works best. There is complimentary goodie bags on the last week, and the cost is €15 for the three weeks. Places are limited and it is a 1st come 1st served basis. Sound Healing Taster Session

A taster session of Sound Healing Therapy with Brenda will be held on Thursday, April 18, from 7-8pm at the West Sligo Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone. Winners in the Model Making were Girls U12, 1 Sophie Packer.

Fit4Life members ran 5km

West Sligo Athletics Club had a wonderful evening celebrating their Fit4Life members who ran their first 5km after an 8 week training programme. There was runners in their 20s right up to 70 years of age. The club extend congratulations to all involved, including those who joined in to run with them, to the supporters who provided great encouragement, and to members who joined the adult program last year still flying it; and to coach Ciaran McGuire, Carmel, Laura and everyone who helped in training twice a week for the 8 weeks.

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw held on Sunday, April 7, were 18, 28, and 44. The €25 winners were Teresa Fox, Jason Scott, Paul Regan and Eamonn Cleary. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on Sunday, April 14, in The Ocean Sands Hotel, was €3200.

New Work Hub

A new work hub, which is warm, peaceful and served by high-speed broadband has been set up at the new Kilglass Community Centre. The first day is free and the following is the price list; day pass €15; 4 days per month €45; 8 days per month €70; 12 days per month €90; unlimited per month €130; dedicated workstation €180. There is a flexible base for corporate membership whenever a team need a quality workspace. Eoghan Rua Ladies lotto

The numbers drawn in the Eoghan Rua Ladies weekly lotto held on April 8, were 15, 26, 29 and 40. Community Games

Enniscrone Kilglass Community Games are holding their athletics event on Sunday, April 28, at 2pm, at Quigabar GAA pitch. This is for running, hurdles, long puck and throw ball.

Indoor Food and Craft Market

The Indoor Food and Craft Market will continue each Saturday in The Old Church, Enniscrone, from 11am to 3pm. It features a wide range of handmade gifts, paintings, home baking, fresh vegetables, bric a brac and local crafts.

West Sligo AC training

Training takes place on Monday evenings from 6 to 6.45pm on the astro for 8 to 9 year olds; 6.45 to 7.30pm on the astro for 10-17 year olds and at 7pm Fit 4 life in the West Sligo Family Resource Centre. On Wednesday evening, training is held from 6 to 6.45pm on the astro for 5 to 7 year olds and on Thursdays at 8pm for Fit4Life in the West Sligo Family Resource Centre.

Bingo in Old Church

Bingo is held in the Old Church, Enniscrone, every Tuesday at 8pm with doors opening at 7pm with free tea and coffee on offer. The proceeds are in aid of Western Gaels Hurling and Camogie Club. All are welcome to come along and support and be in with a chance to win.

Buggy Buddies

The Buggy Buddies programme with Bernie Finley, in conjunction with Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership, meet on Wednesday mornings at 9.45am for a walk at 10am. The cost is €2 per session and the group meet at the Enniscrone Family Resource Centre. There will be indoor activities in the centre if conditions are too wet. All are welcome to come and join for a walk, a cuppa and chat.

Castleconnor

Eoghan secures bronze medal at Irish Chemistry Olympiad

Congratulations to Eoghan Durkan, Castleconnor, a fifth year student of St Muredach’s College, Ballina, who secured a bronze medal at the Irish Chemistry Olympiad Round 2 exam in Dublin City University.

Eoghan has an exceptional talent in Chemistry and all in St Muredach’s College are waiting to see if Eoghan has earned a place on Team Ireland at the International Chemistry Olympiad – IchO to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in July.

Stronger for Longer

An eight week Stronger for Longer programme which is strength and power training for over 50s, commenced at Castleconnor Community Centre on Monday, April 8, from 11am to 12 noon. The cost of the programme is €40. For more information contact Bernie Finlay at 087 6164788.

GAA lotto

The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto held on Saturday, April 6, were 3, 19, 21 and 34. There was no jackpot winner. Congratulations to Trish Healy, Pauline and George Ferguson and Colman Larkin, who all matched 3 numbers and won €35 each. Also congratulations to Joe Corcoran who won the €50 lucky dip prize. The latest jackpot in the draw which was held on Saturday, April 13, was €21,100.

Men on the Move

Men on the Move in partnership with Castleconnor Community Centre has commenced a 6 week programme on Tuesdays from 8.30 to 9.30pm. It is a Mens over 30 years fitness class and is suitable for all abilities where you can increase energy levels, take some time for yourself and have the craic. The cost is €30 and is part-funded by SSRP.
