Local Notes: Culture Night was a great success in Ballinrobe

The Mayo Cancer Support Association, Rock Rose House, thank most sincerely all who contributed so generously to their recent Flag Day Collection in Ballinrobe, where a total of €3915.79 was donated. A special word of thanks to the volunteers who took up the collection, to the businesses who facilitated the collection for their generous hospitality, and finally, to all who contributed. All monies raised go towards the provision of services to all those impacted by a cancer diagnosis.
Ballinrobe Bridge Club recently resumed its activities after the summer break. A competition was held on Friday, October 11, and the results were as follows: 1st, William Enright and Angela Murphy; 2nd Mary Reilly and Maureen Donnelly; 3rd, Aileen Ward and Mary Dalton; 4th, Paul Waldron and Marian O’Connor; 5th, Carmel Costello and Ita Langan; 6th, Breege Connolly and Sean O’Neill.

Ballinrobe Racquetball Club hosts sessions for both ladies and gents in the Lakeside Sport and Fitness Centre, Station Road, Ballinrobe. The ladies racquetball session takes place every Thursday night, at 7pm, whilst racquetball for men takes place every Monday night, at 8pm. Both courts in the centre are available. These weekly games of racquetball are a great way of having fun, meeting new people and keeping fit. The games are suitable for all levels.

The AGM of Ballinrobe Town AFC will take place on Sunday, November 24, at a venue and time yet to be confirmed. New members are welcome.
Congratulations to Ballinrobe Town underage players Molly Sheridan, Chloe Stagg and Ellen Masterson, on their recent call-ups to the underage girls’ Mayo Inter-League squad. The aforementioned players will be representing Mayo in the upcoming FAI Inter-League competition.
Pottery classes, running over six weeks, for children aged 5-12 have commenced in the Tacú Family Resource Centre, Ballinrobe. The days and times are as follows: Friday 4 to 5.30pm.; Saturday 10.30am to 12 noon and 1.30 to 3pm. Booking is essential. For registration and further details, contact Amanda at 087 0698026.
A special Halloween Bingo will take place in the Parish Centre, Ballinrobe, on Tuesday, October 29, at 8.30pm. There will be special Halloween jackpots on the night and lots of prizes and treats.
A ‘Friday Fright Night’ for children will take place in the Ballinrobe Library Grounds, next Friday, October 25, from 5 to 7pm. There will also be a sensory Halloween fun space inside the library. Parents wishing to register their children (€3 per-child) for this event are asked to book a time slot by emailing tacuevents@gmail.com. This event is being organised by the Tacú Family Resource Centre.
Meals on Wheels are hot meals delivered to individuals at home (either on a temporary or long term basis). Meals on wheels can make your life easier. This service covers Ballinrobe and the Lake District area. Deliveries take place on Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s and consist of soup, main meal and dessert. People can also avail of two meals on Monday’s and Thursday’s.

Santa’s Grotto will take place in Ballinrobe, on Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1. Booking is essential and parents are asked to email tacuevents@gmail.com.
The Sing Song Social is a new pop up choir from Ballinrobe who meet up on a regular basis and just sing for fun. These pop up singing events are very relaxed and sociable and you get a great sense of achievement from singing the finished product. There is also no commitment to the group and you can join in the singing as little or as often as you like, and each event is new to everyone.
The groups next sing song will take place on Tuesday, October 22 (tonight) at 7pm, at Ballinrobe Bright Beginnings, in the church in the old Convent, Covent Road, Ballinrobe.
There was no winner of the €24,900 lotto jackpot draw which was held in Fitzpatrick’s Bar, on Monday, October 14. The numbers drawn were 4, 6, 13 and 15. The €25 winners were Gerry O’Malley, and JP King.
Well done to Ballinrobe GAA Club members and underage coaches Kevin Donnellan, Dave McDermott and Pat Donnellan, on completing the Chester Marathon.
Melanie Coyne was the winner of €500 in the weekly 50/50 draw, which was held in Mellotte’s Bar, The Neale, on Sunday, October 13.
There was no winner of the €5,300 lotto jackpot draw which was held in Garrymore, on Sunday, October 13. The numbers drawn were 3, 8, 21 and 24. The €50 winners were Gary O’Toole, Garrymore; Rita Hession, Pulbawn; and Jim McWalter, Garrymore.
Chorus rehearsals have begun for the 2025 production of ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’. The rehearsals take place in the Parish Centre, Ballinrobe. Those wishing to join the chorus are asked to email ballinrobemusicsociety@gmail.com.
