Local Notes: Crossmolina Drama Group stage 'Ask Angela'in the Parish Hall next weekend

Crossmolina Drama Group are back on stage

Crossmolina Drama Group is delighted to be back on stage again next weekend Friday, February 23, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25, at 8pm in Crossmolina Town Hall. Admission for adults is €10, and children €5 and the tickets are available at the door. They have been having great fun rehearsing to perfect this year’s production ‘Ask Angela’ written by local man Martin Donohoe and directed by Ann Fox. Come along and you will be transported into the home of Tom played by Patrick Howley and Marion his wife played by Angela Clifford for this light hearted fun comedy that is sure to have you laughing. Other cast members include Marian Howley, Eileen Leonard, Louise Maughan, Shane O’Boyle, Maureen Timlin and two newcomers Patrick Gallagher and Cathriona Loftus who are just fabulous. Get your glad rags on and hit for the play in Crossmolina and you might even meet Angela if you’re lucky.

There was no winner of Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club lotto jackpot on Saturday night, February 10, in Cooney’s Bar, and the numbers drawn were 4, 22, 27 and 34. Four people matched three numbers Geraldine Gill, Sligo, had two match three numbers, Des and Carmel McGuinn, Enniscoe, Castlehill, and Lindsay Carroll, Deerpark, Crossmolina, and they shared the €150 prize. Irish roots of modern woodturning 

Join a fascinating talk about Irish design with woodturner and lecturer Ambrose O'Halloran at 3pm on Sunday, February 25, at the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life, Turlough Park, Castlebar, Co Mayo. Discover the story of how a simple bowl, designed by Kilkenny Design Workshops in the late 1960s, led to a reimagining of the traditional skill of woodturning and its resurgence in modern crafting in Ireland. Lent

Throughout the duration of Lent, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held in Ardagh Church each weekday morning from 9-9.45am. The rosary will be recited each morning at 9am for world peace. Lenten prayer booklets, "Walk with Me," are available free in the church and parishioners are encouraged to take one. One book per family.

The 2024 Mayo Stages Rally will take placeon Sunday, March 3,in the Knockmore and Ardagh areas. This will involve a number of road closures as listed in the Public Notices Section in the Western People.

Community Alert

Moygownagh Community Alert is currently updating the BeAlert text alert service in the parish. This service has proven to be of great benefit over the last few years. Area representatives will visit all households in the parish between February 19 and 26, to confirm update “BeAlert” information and phone numbers. All participating members will be asked to make a subscription of €20 (this covers 2023 and 2024) or a donation of choice in order to help maintain the service. Each household will also receive a brief newsletter outlining the services and projects that the Moygownagh Community Alert Committee are involved in at present.
