Eoghan McGuinness, Philip Somers, Oisin Corcoran and Brandon Jordan, Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, with 'Coastal Calendars' proudly represented County Sligo in the senior category of the Student Enterprise Awards National final which was held in Mullingar.

The late Alice Gallagher nee McGowan

The death took place of Alice Gallagher nee McGowan, Bartra, Enniscrone, peacefully at Ard na Greine Nursing Home, Enniscrone. She was predeceased by her husband Aidan and her parents Patrick and Josephine McGowan, Kinlough, Co Leitrim. Alice will be sadly missed by her sons Brian (Rosses Point, Sligo) and Colm (Meath) and daughter Aideen (Sydney, Australia), brothers Paudge and Sean, sisters Rose and Josephine, daughters-in-law Marie (Kelly) and Ruth (Owens), son-in-law Damian Finan, grandchildren Aoibhinn, Tom, Adam, Alice, Emile and Luke, in-laws, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Alice reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina on Saturday evening from 5pm with removal at 6.30pm to the Church of Our Lady Assumed Into Heaven, Enniscrone. Requiem Mass was held on Sunday, May 17, at 12 noon followed by burial in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass. May Alice rest in peace.

Coastal Calendars

Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, congratulate Coastal Calendars – Eoghan McGuinness, Philip Somers, Oisin Corcoran and Brandon Jordan who proudly represented County Sligo in the senior category of the Student Enterprise Awards National Final in Mullingar. With guidance and support of their teachers, Siobhan Kilcullen and Martina Ryan, the students created and sold calendars featuring stunning local coastal scenes captured by local photographer Eleanor Corcoran. Their innovative product also utilised QR codes to connect customers directly to their sponsors’ webpages. This was a fantastic achievement and a wonderful example of creativity, entrepreneurship and community collaboration. 

Girls Golf Enniscrone returning

Girls Golf Enniscrone is returning this summer for its second season. Founded in 2025 by LPGA Class A Golf Teaching Professional Sarah Helly Rausenberger, Girls Golf Enniscrone was created with a passion for introducing more girls to the beautiful game of golf. As a mother to two little girls, Sarah is especially passionate about creating opportunities for young girls to learn, grow and thrive through golf.

The programme is designed for girls aged 7-17, and it focuses on beginner to intermediate golf skills, confidence building, friendship, and fun in a supportive environment. Girls Golf Enniscrone is proudly one of only three LPGA Girls Golf Programs in Ireland. Following a successful first season, the program was awarded a €2000 LPGA grant to held grow participation and expand opportunities for girls in the region.

Enniscrone Community Games

The schedule for those going to the County Art Model Making and Handwriting competitions are as follows; Art competition will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 10.30 for U6, U8, U10, U14 and U16, and on Sunday, May 31 at 12 noon for the U12’s. The maximum time allowed is 3 hours for U12, U14 and U16, while the maximum time allowed for the U8 and U10 is 2 hours. Two people per county per event will go through to the national finals.

The handwriting competition will take place on Sunday, May 31 at 10am for U10, U12 and U14. The competition will be a maximum of one hour and two children per county per event will go through to the national finals.

The modelmaking competition will also take place on Sunday, May 31 at 12 noon for U10, U12, U14 and U16. An exhibit must be based on a Community Games Activity. The time allotted will be 3 hours and two children per county per event will go through to the national finals.

West Sligo Athletic Club success

West Sligo Athletic Club had an incredible evening in Sligo ATU on Friday, May 8, and the club are very proud of every single athlete who represented the club. The effort, determination and team spirit shown by all the young athletes was truly outstanding, and it was fantastic to see so many brilliant performances and achievements across the evening. A massive congratulations to all the medal winners and competitors; U9s Turbo Javelin 1st place; relay U9 girls 2nd place; U10s relay 3rd place, 60m 3rd place; U11 boys 60m 5th place, relay 3rd place, turbo javelin 2nd place, long jump 2nd place and 600m 1st place.

Tidy Towns AGM

The Enniscrone Tidy Towns will hold their annual general meeting on this evening, Tuesday, May 19, in the Family Resource Centre, Enniscrone at 7pm. The group are getting very short on numbers, and with most of them in their senior years, it makes it increasingly more difficult to keep Tidy Towns operating efficiently. They urgently need new members and volunteers, not just to get ready for the Tidy Towns adjudicators who will be coming to inspect the town in a few weeks time but to be proactive and develop new projects to help enhance the local environs. ‘Enniscrone is your town – help make it a better place to live and enjoy’.

Activator Poles

Come along and join in the West Sligo Family Resource Centre activator pole walking every Tuesday from 11am to 12 midday. A new 8 week programme is starting today, Tuesday, May19 and will continue until July 7. Enjoy the fresh air, get active, and spend time with friends and maybe some new faces too. The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football club blotto draw held on Sunday, May 10, were 15, 31 and 41. There was no jackpot winner and the €25 prizewinners were Eddie Forde, Gerry Walsh, Mick Garvey and Tommy Connaughton. The jackpot in the latest draw held on Sunday, May 17, was €14000.

Bright Sparks Summer Camp

Bright Sparks Summer Camp is a week of creative fun including arts and crafts, games, drama and more in a relaxed, friendly environment. The camp takes place at The Old Church, Enniscrone from July 13-17, 10am to 2pm daily. The camp is suitable for children in junior infants to 4th class. Market Day in the Old Church

Market Day in the Old Church, Enniscrone continues every Saturday morning from 11am to 3pm. There is a large range of items for sale including knitwear, jewellery, arts and crafts, baked goods etc. You can also sit down for tea, scones and treats. Easkey

The late Martin (Marty) Taylor

The death took place of Martin (Marty) Taylor, Easkey, Co Sligo and Palmerstown, Dublin and formerly of Dartry, Cootehill, Co Cavan on May 11, suddenly at his residence in Easkey, Co Sligo.

Marty was predeceased by his parents John and Nora, sister Bridgie, brothers Tommy, Jack and Vincent. He was the beloved husband of Pat and loving father of Padraic. He will also be sadly missed by his daughter-in-law Rachel, grandchildren Daniel, James and Anna, sister-in-law Joanie, in-laws, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Marty reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Thursday evening from 4.30pm with removal at 6.15pm to St James Church, Easkey, arriving at 7pm. His requiem Mass was held on Friday morning, May 15, at 11am followed by burial in Roslea Cemetery, Easkey. May Marty rest in peace.

Easkey 5k Fun Run success

Two weeks on from the Fun Run an astonishing amount of €35,000 and counting has been raised. The idonate link will be running until May 31, and a final count will be given thereafter. The organisers are very grateful and thank each and everyone who took part on the day and everyone who sponsored in any way.

Rejuvenated notice board

Recently volunteers rejuvenated the notice board at the castle in Easkey. This board was made and donated to Easkey Enhancement Association by a community member. Volunteers gave their time to paint it, purchase flowers and plant them into their new home. Posters were made advertising all the lovely community events and gatherings that are happening in Easkey. Images from the 2026 Easkey Enhancement Calendar were put up that showcases the beautiful area that the people of Easkey are very proud of. Come and enjoy this beautiful place but people are asked to leave it as they find it.

Castleconnor Community Games

A wonderful afternoon of track events was held on Sunday, May 10 last and the committee extend thanks to all the volunteers who work hard behind the scenes to make days like this happen. Well done to all the children who participated and they should all be very proud of themselves. The county track and field event takes place on Saturday, June 20. Ashling will be in touch with those who have qualified for this event. Thanks have been extended to Muddy Burns, Checkout, Enniscrone, The Hilltop, Culleens, SuperValu Ballina and the Value Centre for their sponsorship.

Castleconnor GAA All-Stars

The Castleconnor GAA All-Stars are held on Saturday mornings from 10.45am to 11.30am in Castleconnor Community Centre. There are fun games for children aged 4-12 years with additional needs and their siblings. Parents must stay and play. To book a place contact Bernie Finlay on 087 6164788.

The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on Saturday, May 9, were 1, 27, 29 and 40. There was no jackpot and no match 3 winners. The winner of the €50 lucky dip draw was Lisa Sweeney. The jackpot in the latest draw held on May 16, was €17,100.
