Local Notes: Clogher Environmental Group present cheque to Mayo Autism Camp

A meeting will be held in the Carnacon Parish Centre on Wednesday, March 6 at 8pm. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the formation of a new Community Development Association Committee. This meeting will be facilitated by Mr. Seanan Turnbull a specialist in Community Organisation Development.
There was no winner of the jackpot in the latest Ballintubber GAA Lotto draw on Sunday, February 18. 1, 8, 19 and 36 were the numbers drawn and the winners of the consolation prizes of €20 special €52k draw tickets on the night were Walter Lyons, Peter Rowan, Maureen Mulroe, Christe Slabber, Tom Malone and Michael and Sean Duffy.
On last Sunday, February 25, the jackpot stood at €3,800. All lucky dip winners get a ticket for the 'Win 52k' draw. Congratulations to Mia Thomas who won the tickets for the man United v Liverpool match in the special Valentine’s Day draw.

Deepest sympathy is extended to Maureen Quinn, Burriscarra, on the passing of her brother, Michael Mullen, R.I.P. Rathbawn Drive, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Michael passed away peacefully at Mayo University Hospital on February 17. A nationally known author he was hugely respected in literary circles and was one of Castellar’s most notable sons.
He is deeply regretted by his loving wife Deirdre, brother Tim, sister Maureen, sisters-in-law Emer, Margaret and Anniemaye, brothers-in-law Diarmuid and Ciaran, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. The Darkness into Light walk will take place in Ballyglass on May 11, in aid of Pieta House. As this year’s event is an official event, where large crowds are expected, volunteers will be needed to ensure the event is run safely and smoothly. The first in a series of planning meetings will take place on this Tuesday, February 20, at 7pm in the community centre.
Following a break of two months, the Ballyglass Market will be back in action on Sunday, March 10. The organisers and vendors are deeply looking forward to meeting all their patrons.
A spring will take place on Saturday week next. Participants for the clean-up are asked to meet at Ballyglass Community Centre at 11am on Saturday, March 2. Gloves and bags provided.
The results of the card games held on Monday, February 19, in Ballyglass Community Centre: 1st Dave Gibbons and Tomas Solan, 2nd Mary Morrin and Jimmy Sheridan; Tom and Patsy Flatley and 3rd Richard and Mary Carney. All roads led to Corley’s restaurant in Ballintubber last week when the ladies of Ballyglass Active Age group had their Valentine’s get together! The group enjoyed a lovely evening with good company and delicious food. There was a very tasty 3 course meal served by the ever friendly and helpful staff of Corley’s. Peggy and Margaret celebrated birthdays on the evening with flowers, cake and candles. Congrats to both ladies. It was a wonderful evening of chat and laughter. Thanks has been extended to Maureen, Aggie and Mary for organising the evening and also for the thoughtful gesture of presenting everyone with a single yellow rose, the symbol of friendship. Thanks also to Nora for capturing the memorable moments on camera throughout the evening. This was the first social get-together of 2024 and the group looks forward to many more to come. As ever, new members are always very welcome.

The Minister of State at An Roinn Turasóireachta, Cultúir, Ealaíon, Gaeltachta, Spóirt agus Meán Patrick O Donovan TD will officially launch the Tuar Mhic Éadaigh Community Action Plan 2023-2028 at Thuar Mhic Éadaigh presentation.
CLG Thuar Mhic Éadaigh registration and presentation night is being held on next Sunday, March 3, at 5.30pm in the Ionad Spóirt. The club are delighted to reveal that Mayo GAA/LGFA footballers, Ryan Donoghue and Danielle Caldwell will be there to present the medals to the winning teams of 2023.

The Thuar Mhic Éadaigh GAA lotto draw took place on February 17, for a jackpot of €10,700. 13, 23, 28 and 30 were the numbers drawn. There was no jackpot winner. The online prize winners were Stephen Joyce and Jacqueline Shannon. The jackpot draw was held again on February 24, with a highly attractive jackpot of €10,800.

Killawalla Ladies Group would like to advise people that there is no “Move it or lose it” class on Wednesday, February 28, due to upgrading work on the hall floor. The classes will continue on Wednesday, March 6, at 7.30pm in the community centre. The classes will continue until Easter and cost €8 pay as you go.

Partry Community Centre is close to being ready to open as a WiFi hub which will enable the centre to be used for many projects including working from home. With assistance from the Department of Rural and Community Development and Mayo County Council, the first stage of the project is close to completion. The next step will be the development of a community garden close to the soccer pitch.

Ballyheane and surrounding communities first Responders Group is looking for volunteers to join their group. With defibrillators available in most if not all communities, it is important that as many people as possible are trained to save lives when an emergency arises. An open evening will take place on Thursday, February 29, from 8.30 – 10pm in Ballyheane Community Centre (F23 WP92) to give people an opportunity to meet the local volunteers, learn to use a defibrillator and see how CPR can save a person’s life. Volunteers from all areas are welcome in particular volunteers from Errew and Killawalla are needed most. All training and equipment is provided.
Jiving lessons will commence in Ballyheane Community Centre on April 4, in the lead up to the very popular Ballyheane Goes Country Music festival which takes place in early June. This year's Senior Scór County Final will be held in Balla Community Centre on Friday, March 22. The night gets underway with the quiz at 7pm. Clogher Environmental Group has been shortlisted for the Mayo County Council’s Cathaoirleach’s award in the Contribution to Local Biodiversity and Natural Heritage category. The overall winners will be announced at the awards presentation on Thursday, March 7, in Breaffy House.
There are two defibrillators situated in the Clogher area, one at the side of the Community Hall F12 EK24 and one at the Ballintubber Football pitch F12 HF76. The community would like to identify First Aid and Defibrillator trained people in the area who would be prepared to make themselves available to use a defibrillator or administer first aid in an emergency situation. Anyone willing to go on these lists make contact with the community hall at 094 9360891 or any member of the committee.
