The late Marie Hession McMunn

The death occurred last week of Marie Hession McMunn, Renmore, Galway and late of Ballinaglee, Ballyglass, Claremorris, Co. Mayo. Marie passed away on September 15 and her passing is a great loss to the Hession and McMunn families and many relatives, friends and neighbours. Marie is fondly remembered in her home community as a lovely warm kind person. She endeared herself to all privileged to have known her during her lifetime.

Predeceased by her husband George, her parents Jack and Kitty, her brother Mickey, her nephew Seamus and her sister-in-law Mary, Marie is deeply regretted by her sister Josephine Trench and her husband Richard, her brother Jimmy and her sister-in-law Bridie, her niece Maria, Robert and family, her nieces Patricia, Caroline, Keelin and Niamh, her nephews Richard, James, Bernard, Conor, Eoin, Ciarán, Darragh and Cian, her step-daughter Deirdre and her daughter Ciara, her grandnieces and grandnephews to whom sincere sympathy is offered.

Marie’s remains reposed at Aras Naofa, Renmore on Thursday, September 18, from 5 to 6.30pm with removal afterwards to Carnacon Church. Marie’s Funeral Mass was celebrated on last Friday at 1pm followed by burial in Burriscarra Cemetery. May she rest eternally in the peace and happiness of heaven.

Ballintubber GAA

Ballintubber GAA lotto jackpot stood at €11,900 on Sunday night, September 14. The numbers drawn were 1, 3, 21 and 33. There was no jackpot winner. Consolation prizes went to Tommy McGreal, Peter Rowan, David McHale, Michael and Marie Cannon, Pat Mulroe and Kevin Joyce. The jackpot stood at €12,000 on last Sunday night, September 21.

Ballintubber Family Fun Run (5k - walk-jog-run) will take place on September 28, at 10am. There will be prizes 1st male and 1st female. Registration from 9am and the entry fees are €10 each per adult and €30 per family. Proceeds are in aid of Ballintubber Community Council.

Carra Catchment Association meeting

The LCCA September meeting will be held tonight, September 23, in Carnacon Community Centre at 8pm. There will be a presentation by Dr. Elaine McGoff on water quality and nitrates and also on her research on Lough Carra and updates on the Lough Carra Life Project.

Outstanding Carra Bioblitz success

Sincere thanks has been extended to everyone who attended the recent Lough Carra Bioblitz at Moore Hall as part of National Heritage Week with the brilliant support of Brian Hughes and Grace Kilbane from the National Parks and Wildlife Service, Biodiversity Officer Shelia Murphy, Robert Coyne from Mayo County Council and support from local experts Breda Hughes, Amber Jay, Michael Kingdon and Celia Graebner.

Over 200 people were welcomed (actually due to big numbers – the count was lost!) to the grounds of Moore Hall on the shores of Lough Carra. Together over 720 individual records of over 200 species were recorded across the day.

A special thanks to the fantastic new Lough Carra Ambassadors who helped run the event, and brought a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the day, and a very a special thanks to The Heritage Council for supporting the Our Lake, Our Heritage project.

The late Annie Mary Gorman

The death has taken place of Annie Mary Gorman, Weatherfort, Clogher, Claremorris, Co Mayo. Annie Mary passed away peacefully in the loving care of the staff at Cuan Chaitriona Nursing Home, Castlebar, surrounded by caring relatives. Predeceased by her parents Annie and Joe she is deeply regretted by her cousins, relatives, friends and neighbours to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Her remains reposed at Ballyglass Community Centre on Thursday evening from 5pm with removal at 7pm to the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace and St. Gerald, Mayo Abbey. Requiem Mass for Annie Mary took place on last Friday at 11am with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Ar dheis De go raibh a nAinm.

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot when the draw was held on Monday, September 15. The numbers drawn from the drum were 4, 8, 18 and 24. Joe Sheridan matched 3 numbers. Consolation prize winners were James Loftus, TC Connolly, Byrne family and John McGreal. The weekend draw stood at €14,200.

The late Noreen Gavin

The death occurred recently of Noreen Gavin (Nora P) née Maher, Cloughanover, Headford Co. Galway. The deceased was formerly from Tourmakeady, Co. Mayo. She died on September 11, and her passing is an occasion of great sorrow to her family and many friends.

In her 97th year she passed away in the love and care of her daughter Dolores and family. Pre-deceased by her beloved husband Tommie and her infant son John, she will be deeply regretted by her family, Ann English, Adrian, Dolores Doyle, Joe, Paul, Tomás and Diarmuid, sons-in-law Brian English and John Doyle, daughters-in-law Mary, Martina, Trish, Helen and Deirdre, 23 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, brother Tony and his wife Margaret (Ennis), her sisters Crissie Pringle (USA) and Grace Cock, and her husband Jim (UK), nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends to whom sincere sympathy is tendered.

Noreen’s remains reposed at Carey’s Funeral Home, Claran Road, Headford on Saturday, September 13, from 5 until 7pm. The removal from her home on the Sunday morning arrived at St. Mary’s Church, Tourmakeady for Requiem Mass at 11.30am. Burial ceremonies took place afterwards in Guesdian Cemetery, Ballinafad. May she rest eternally in the peace and happiness of heaven.

“A Harvest Table” is the theme for this month’s get-together in the Mons Horan Centre in Partry at 7.30pm on this Thursday, September 25 (Over 18s). Errew Coffee Morning

Errew Coffee Morning fundraiser for hospice will take place on Thursday, September 25 from 11am to 2pm in Errew Community Centre. All the community are urged to come together for a cuppa, some sweetness and a nice chat. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful Hospice facility on our doorstep in Castlebar. Vital funds are needed for the palliative care services in Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation. Thanks have been extended to Catherine Hoban and Bernie Thomas for hosting this event.
