Oireachtas na Samhna 2023

Déanann Gaeilge Iorrais comhghairdeas ó chroí leis an mbeirt ógánaigh as Gaeltacht Iorrais a ghlac páirt in Oireachtas na Samhna i gCill Airne an tseachtain seo caite. Ghlac Nell Ní Mhongáin (SN Dhumha Thuama agus CCÉ Chraobh Chlann Lir) páirt i gcomórtas amhránaíochta ar an sean-nós (comórtas C d’iomaitheoirí atá 9 mbliana d’aois ar Lá Samhna 2023). Bhí Jamie Ó Ciaráin (SN Chorrchloch agus CCÉ Chraobh Chlann Lir) páirteach i gcomórtas amhránaíochta ar an sean-nós (comórtas F d’iomaitheoirí atá 12 bliain d’aois ar Lá Samhna 2023). Bhí orthu beirt amhrán amháin de rogha an iomaitheora (amhrán mall nó amhrán tapaidh) a chasadh i stíl an tsean-nóis. Ba álainn ar fad na fonnadóirí óga seo ó Ghaeltacht Iorrais a chloisteáil ag góilín go binn ag féile mhór na nGael. Nár laga Dia iad. Bualadh bos speisialta do Nell Ní Mhongáin a bhain an dara háit agus bonn amach ina rannóg siúd. Chas Nell leagan áitiúil d’amhrán clúiteach ón gceantar Gaeltachta seo ‘Cúirt Bhaile Nua’ ina glór binn uathúil. Tá bua na hamhránaíochta ag Jamie Ó Ciaráin freisin. Chas Jamie leagan ársa den amhrán ‘Brighid Ní Mháille’ go fonnmhar – leagan nach gcloistear a thuilleadh ach sna bólaí seo. Tá moladh mór millteach ag dul do na páistí seo. Seo í an chéad uair le blianta gur ghlac aon pháiste ó Ghaeltacht Iorrais páirt in Oireachtas na Samhna. Ba mhaith linn a gcuid buanna agus éachtaí a threaslú leofa, lena gcuid tuismitheoirí, lena muintir agus lena múinteoir amhránaíochta Síle Uí Mhongáin. Tá moladh mór ag dul do Shíle Uí Mhongáin, múinteoir amhránaíochta na bpáistí, atá ag tabhairt faoi chlár amhránaíochta ar an sean-nós i scoileanna Gaeltachta Iorrais le díograis agus le dúthracht agus a bhuí le tacaíocht ó scéim Neartú Ealaín na Gaeltachta atá á comhordú ag Gaeilge Iorrais ó 2020. Níl aon dabht ach go bhfuil bláthú ag teacht ar an obair seo i mbliana agus go leor suime anois san amhránaíocht ar an sean-nós i scoileanna Gaeltachta Iorrais agus go leor duaiseanna bainte ag páistí Iorrais i bhfleadhanna agus ag Oireachtas na Samhna i mbliana. Gura fada buan iad. Tráthúil go maith, thug Síle agus Séamus Ó Mongáin cur i láthair ar son oifig na Gaeilge (Comhairle Contae Mhaigh Eo) ag Oireachtas na Samhna maidir le stair na hamhránaíochta ar an sean-nós i nGaeltacht Iorrais agus na hathruithe atá tagtha uirthi le himeacht aimsire. Bhí traidisiún láidir sean-nóis i dtuaisceart Mhaigh Eo sa 19ú haois agus mhair go leor filí agus cumadóirí amhrán sa cheantar. Leis an drochshaol agus an imirce, d’fhág na sluaite an áit ach choinnigh siad leofa an traidisiún amhránaíochta sa saol úr. Sa bhaile faraor, chuaigh an traidisiún i léig gur beag nár cailleadh ar fad é, ach le blianta beaga anuas tá athbheochan an traidisiúin agus na n-amhrán áitiúil le sonrú i measc an aosa óig ach go háirithe. Mar fhocal scoir, comhghairdeas freisin le Bríd Áine Ní Ghrádaigh (Ráth Chairn, Co. na Mí) a bhain an dara háit sa chomórtas amhránaíochta ar an sean-nós (d’iomaitheoirí atá 8 mbliana d’aois ar Lá Samhna 2023). Rugadh agus tógadh máthair Bhríd Áine (Joanne Ní Mhonacháin) i nGaeltacht Iorrais (in Oiligh ar leithinis an Mhuirthead). Is ann atá a muintir go fóill agus iad maraithe le bród leis an dea-scéala seo.

Kieran is the heart and soul

A heartfelt salute to Kieran Gallagher, the heart and soul behind Centra Bangor Erris. While the Manager of the Year award might have eluded him, Kieran's unwavering commitment to the staff and community deserves its own spotlight.

Although he didn't take home the Manager of the Year award at the Pride of Centra Awards in the Mansion House in Dublin recently, making it to the top 10 out of 480 Centra stores in Ireland is an outstanding achievement.

For years, he's been the driving force, creating a warm and supportive environment for both the team and customers. Kieran, your daily impact on the staff and the community is immeasurable, and we are grateful for all you do.
