The Claremorris St Patrick’s Day Parade will return to the town on Sunday, March 17.

It promises to be a fun-filled day for the whole family as there will be free children’s entertainment, with bouncy castles and face painting at The Square from 12 noon. There will be music and entertainment from 1pm onwards and the parade itself will kick-off at 2pm.

Then that evening there will be a fireworks show at 8pm at The Square.

There will be no grand marshal in this year’s parade but the ‘Achievers of Claremorris’, anyone who has success over the past 12 months, will lead the parade. The theme of this year’s instalment is ‘Reeling in the Years’.

Well-known Cuban boxing coach Nicolás Cruz Hernandez will lead the Claremorris Ultimate Kickboxing alongside amateur world number one Gary O’Donnell.

The Mayobridge Band from Newry will also be marching in the parade.

There will also be €600 worth of prize money for float entry this year with €100 for the best theme, €100 best club/school, €100 business/firm and €300 for the best overall winner.

Anyone interested in entering a float can find forms at Clár IRD. For more information, visit www.facebook.com.

Charitable Art Exhibition

A group of compassionate local artists have come together to donate their artwork for a noble cause, hosting an exhibition at Claremorris Gallery, Mount St, Claremorris, dedicated to the fight against child labour. The event aims to raise awareness and funds for Protect The Children Of Kenya, a local charity committed to the eradication of child exploitation.

The exhibition takes place from March 15th to 17th. The opening times are: Friday and Saturday, 11am to 5pm, and Sunday, 12 noon to 5pm. It will be officially opened on Friday, March 15th, at 8pm by Dominic Feeney, chief executive of local firm CBE.

This special exhibition is a unique collaboration between PROTECT, Claremorris Gallery and the local artists, who have generously donated their works to support this critical cause. The event not only showcases the diverse talents of the artists but also reflects their shared commitment to social justice and child welfare.

Rugby

It wasn’t to be for the Mount St Michael girls' rugby team who lost the Connacht final by one point at Dexcom Stadium last Wednesday. The girls lost 27-26 to the Convent of Mercy.

Everyone involved with rugby in the school wishes to thank all the parents, teachers and supporters who stay with them when they win and when they lose.

The school want to thank Mr Hession for his devotion to rugby in MSM and William Ganley for all his support in helping to promote rugby in the school.

Sometimes it's not about the destination - sometimes it's about the journey! A sad end to a wonderful year.

The late Margaret Budgett

The death has occurred of Margaret Budgett (née Walsh), Feamore, Tulrahan, Claremorris, and formerly of Manchester.

Margaret passed away peacefully at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar earlier this month.

Predeceased by her husband Phil, Margaret will be sadly missed by her loving daughters, Beverley Peel (Kilvine, Irishtown) Debbie and Jessica (England), grandchildren Izzy, Lisa Marie and Christopher, great-grandchildren Lexie, Amelia, Jesse, Orson and Gloria, relatives, neighbours and friends.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.

Best Use of Social Media

Congratulations to Mount St Michael TY students Mya McGahon, Emily Foy, Alissa Tulinow, Ella Hughes and Alisha Slattery who won ‘The Best Use of Social Media’ last week at the Student Enterprise Programme in The Great National Hotel, Ballina for their project ‘A Guide to Ireland’.

This booklet, aimed at helping exchange and international students, has information on topics such as healthcare, education, transport, Irish culture and settling into your host family. It can be accessed in many languages through the booklet or the website created by the girls. They also have an Instagram page - @guide.to.Ireland.

Well done to the girls and their teacher Ms Flynn.
