Mama Mia Papa Mia

Transition year students from Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, are hard at work rehearsing for this year’s school musical Mama Mia, Papa Mia, which will be staged on Wednesday and Thursday, January 28 and 29, 2026. It takes place on a sunny island, with a secret plan, and music that brings everyone together. Expect passion, energy and unforgettable performances.

Christmas Hamper draw

The student council organised a free Christmas Hamper draw for all the students at Jesus and Mary Secondary School, with every student automatically entered for a chance to win a fabulous prize. The lucky winner was drawn by Ms Hamilton at their annual Christmas Carol Service and congratulations is extended to 3rd year student Kyle Greer who won the Christmas hamper.

The late Mary Jo Feeney nee Kevany

The death took place of Mary Joe Feeney nee Kevany, Fortland, Easkey, peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family on December 13 last. Mary Jo was predeceased by her husband Greg and her parents Patrick and Rita Kevany. She was the beloved mother of Cyril (Fortland), Enda (Limerick), Geralding (Charlestown), Brendan (Cong), Fergal (Kildare) and Ita (Castlebar).

Mary Joe will be sadly missed by her loving sons, daughter, son-in-law, daughters-in-law, her adored grandchildren Deirdre, Aoibheann, Greg, Roisin, Ali, Orla, Ella, Mark, Hugo, Luca, and Sophia, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Mary Joe reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, on Monday evening, December 15, from 4.30 to 6.30pm and her funeral arrived to St James Church, Easkey for Requiem Mass at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 16, followed by burial in Roslea Cemetery, Easkey. May she rest in peace.

Christmas events

On Sunday last, December 21, Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Club hosted their annual Christmas Tractor Run. Registration took place at the pitch in Quigabar before the run took off at 6pm. The event was in aid of MS Ireland.

MS Ireland are also the chosen charity for their Christmas Charity match on December 27, at Quigabar, with throw in at 6pm. The club will also have their annual get together in the clubhouse afterwards, where they will present their usual awards and also honour the club’s minor team of 1975, 50 years on from their county final success. Everyone is welcome to attend what should be a great night.

Mass times

Mass times in the parish of Kilglass are as follows; Enniscrone – Christmas Eve, December 24 at 7pm; Kilglass Church, Christmas Eve, December 24, at 8pm; Enniscrone on Christmas morning at 10am and in Kilglass Church at 11am.

U13A boys

The Kilglass Enniscrone Utd U13A boys made the trip to play Westport on Saturday, December 12, in the Connacht Cup in terrible conditions. Although the KEUFC were missing a few regulars the lads put in a brilliant and gusty performance against a good Westport United side. Conditions were difficult with the rain and wind throughout making good football difficult but both sides battled hard throughout the game and it was Westport who ran out winners in the end.

Sean Tuffy was on the scoresheet for KEUFC. The club thanks the ref for the game and to Westport for the hospitality after the game and they wish them the best of luck in the next round of the Connacht Cup.

St Vincent de Paul Appeal

The annual Christmas food, toy, toiletries appeal for St Vincent de Paul is now running. Boxes for donation are available in Kilglass and Enniscrone churches and in local businesses and the appeal will continue until January 6. Please consider donating something to this worthwhile cause as all contributions will be gratefully accepted.

Scoil Chriost Ri fundraiser weekly draw

The Parents Association of Scoil Chriost Ri, are calling on parents, families and local businesses to support their weekly school lottery. A weekly draw will be held and people will be in with a chance to win a fantastic cash prize and all the proceeds go directly back into the school. Your support will help buy new equipment, upgrade classrooms, improve playgrounds and make the school an even better place for every child in the community.

Tickets are only €5 for 3 lines and all people need to do is scan the QR code on the posters around the town or visit the website www.ourfundraiser.ie/org/enniscronens. There is a maximum of 3 lines per supporters. Supporters must be over 18 years of age to participate.

Collection envelopes for 2026

The boxes of collection envelopes for 2026 for the parish of Kilglass will be distributed to households. If you would like to receive a box of collection envelopes and a box of Church Building Fund envelopes contact Fr Gerry. It is hoped to paint the church outside and inside this coming year, re plaster and dry line the wall around the window in the choir gallery, and to do some work on the sacristy roof where water is coming in also. All works completed to date are paid for.

Easkey and Eoghan Rua combined lotto

The numbers drawn in the combined Easkey and Eoghan Rua lotto which was held on December 14 last were 22, 25, 26 and 37. There was no jackpot winner and consolation prizewinners were Amy Fleming, Leo Conlon, Kathleen Coggins, Gerry Holmes, and Iona and Coemgein Doherty. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held in The Castle Inn on December 21, was €10,300.

In addition to a chance of winning the jackpot of €10,300 on December 21, there was 5 consolation prizes of €30 and they had 3 vouchers up for grabs and there will be another 3 up for grabs on December 28. The vouchers are from Bernie’s Shop, Easkey; Top Oil, Ballina; Cavanagh Meats, Easkey; Fairgreen Butchers, Dromore West; and Homeland Agri, Easkey.

Celebrating 85 years

As Jesus and Mary Secondary School step into a milestone year, they are filled with gratitude and joy. For 85 years, the Jesus and Mary Sisters have been at the heart of their community, providing education, guidance and unwavering support to generations of families. The school are truly grateful for their enduring legacy.

To mark this special anniversary, they have planned a year filled with celebrations and they are thrilled to kick things off in January with their musical, ‘Mamma Mia, Papa Mia’. Stay tuned for more events, memories and moments as they celebrate 85 incredible years.

Blotto

The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw held on December 14, were 31, 34 and 36. There was no jackpot winner . The €25 prizewinners were Pauline Sweeney, Anthony Egan, Padraic Tighe and Martin O’Dowd. The jackpot in the latest draw held on Sunday, December 21, in The Pilot Bar was €10,000.

Social dancing

Social dancing is taking place in Skreen and Dromard Community Centre, on Saturday, January 10, at 9pm with music by Adrian Ryan. Eircode for the centre is F91 EY01.

Civic Reception for Paddy Reape

Congratulations to Paddy Reape, Ard Chuain Equestrian Centre, Corballa, who was honoured at a special Civic Reception held by Sligo County Council in County Hall on Tuesday, December 16. The reception celebrated three outstanding athletes whose achievements have brought immense pride to Sligo and to Ireland – Paddy Reape, Gearoid McDaid and Cian McMunn.

Paddy played a crucial role in Ireland’s historic U18 European Gold Medal win at the FEI Championships in Riesenbeck, Germany. Riding Mr Rocky blue, Paddy was the first into the arena in the final round – an immense responsibility- and his calm, determined performance helped secure Ireland’s landmark victory ahead of the Netherelands and Belgium.

Cllr. Nealon highlighted the broader impact of the lads success, describing the athletes ‘as ambassadors for Sligo, and for Ireland, showcasing the talent, resilience and ambition that define our community’.

Christmas Community Morning

Castleconnor Community Centre thank everyone who joined them for their Christmas Community Morning. ‘It truly was a fantastic morning and a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and spend time with neighbours and friends’, said a spokesperson. They extend thanks to Santa, who made a guest appearance and did an amazing job entertaining the children and spreading Christmas cheer and to Aishling and Tony Music for their fantastic festive entertainment.

The community council are incredibly grateful to all the local businesses who generously sponsored prizes for the fundraising raffle and the businesses who sponsored food and drink, helping make the morning so enjoyable – Muddy Burns, Hilltop Mace, O’Hara’s of Foxford, Barnes Kelly Milk, Munch and Brunch and to everyone who brought food. Finally thanks have been extended to all the volunteers who helped organise, set up, and run the event, and making it such a special and memorable Christmas Community Morning.

GAA lotto 

The numbers drawn in the Castleconnor GAA lotto which was held on December 13 last were 3, 9, 24 and 40. There was no jackpot winner and the match 3 winner was John and Carmel Judge. The lucky dip winner was Emma Irwin. The jackpot in the latest draw held on December 20, was€15,000.
