It has been a very busy few weeks for the Claremorris handball pair Naill Joyce and Paddy Murphy - they competed in both the Senior and Intermediate 60x30 Championship.
In the last 16 in Senior, they travelled to Limerick to play Kilkenny’s Jack Holden and Kyle Jordan and won 11-7 in a tiebreaker. The next day they played Chris Doyle and Michael Gregan from Wicklow in Mullingar and also won in a tiebreaker.
Next up was the semi-final which was against the very experienced Dublin pair of Eoin Kennedy and Carol Brown. This was played in Croke Park and the Claremorris pair competed very well but lost out. This was a great experience and they will have learned a lot from these games.
They then had to focus on their Intermediate semi-final which was played in Limerick against Jack O’Shea and Daire Kean from Kerry. This was again very closely contested but the Claremorris pair did enough to win and reach the All-Ireland Intermediate Double Final for the first time.
The final was played in Tuamgraney in Co Clare - the hometown of the great handballer Pat Kirby. They faced the Kilkenny brothers of Patrick and Peter Funchion but unfortunately lost the final 21-9 and 21-11.
Well done to Nail and Paddy for their performance at this level.
