Local Notes: Castleconnor children compete at the Community Games
Well done to the children from Castleconnor Community Games who competed at the Cross Country and Mixed Distances events last week.
The death has taken place of Liam Tuffy, 8 Neiphin Drive, Enniscrone, on Monday, April 13, peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Liam was predeceased by his parents Sean and Gertrude Tuffy and his sister Maureen Hand. He was the beloved brother of Padraic (Enniscrone), Josephine Kelly (Kiltimagh), Margaret Connaughton (Enniscrone), Vera Whitworth (Holland), Sheila Harkins (Pier Road, Enniscrone), Monica McKenna (Enniscrone) and Antoinette O’Donovan (Dublin), sister-in-law Anne, brothers-in-law Pete Kelly, Tony Connaughton, Vince Whitworth, Michael Harkins, and Damien O’Donovan, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Liam reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Thursday evening, April 16, from 5.30pm with removal at 7pm to the Church of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, Enniscrone. Requiem Mass took place on Friday morning, April 17, at 11am followed by a cremation service at McGowan’s Crematorium and Funeral Home, Collooney, Co Sligo. May Liam rest in peace.
Messy Tots for little ones are starting a four-week term at Kilglass Parish Community Centre commencing on Saturday, April 25, from 10am to 11am. The price for the 4-week term is €45 and it will be a fun, engaging, sensory filled experience with music and movement and soft play area for your little ones. Enniscrone Kilglass Community Games committee extend their thanks to the Diamond Coast Hotel, Enniscrone who have generously donated €500 to their club. This money will go a long way towards purchasing new kits or equipment for the group, which is expanding every year. ‘It is great to see so many children and young people taking part in more and more events each year, and we are proud of their achievements’, said a spokesperson for the group.
Second year students from Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone attended a Volleyball Ireland 4v4 Blitz in the Atlantic Technological University, Sligo last week, competing alongside 27 teams from across the county. All teams represented the school excellently, demonstrating great skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day. One team, consisting of Ryan tuffy, James Cawley, Bran Beglane and Niall Bourke, performed exceptionally well, topping their group. The remaining teams also delivered strong performances in their respective groups.
Overall, it was a highly enjoyable and successful day for all involved. The school extend thanks to Ms Tighe and Ms Dooley for organising.
Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership are looking for Walk leaders to help run weekly walks in local parks or around their own village – keeping routes easy going, welcoming and suitable for different abilities. The walks are for adults to get out, get active and enjoy some social time together.
To be involved, you will lead small groups in a relaxed, supportive environment where everyone can take part at their own pace and enjoy the outdoors together. Requirements are that you are over 18 years of age, can commit to leading a weekly walk in your area, comfortable guiding a small group, no experience is needed, just an interest in waling and supporting your community.

The intermediate footballers lost out to Castleconnor by a point, 0-11 to 0-10, in their opening Spring League fixture. The lads played their second group game on Sunday last at home to Eastern Harps.
It was another mixed week on the underage front, with the minors losing out to Coolera/Strandhill but the U15s positive form continued with a good win away to St Molaise Gaels. The U15s hosted Tubbercurry/Cloonacool on Monday evening last while the minors were away to Kilcoyne Park to play the same opposition on Tuesday.
The U13s were also away to Tubbercurry/Cloonacool on Friday night last in Tubbercurry.

Enniscrone Kilglass GAA Club extend its sympathy to the Quinn family on the passing of Rory Quinn last week. Rory’s late father, Seamus, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs blotto draw which was held on Sunday, April 12, were 10, 15 and 34. There was no jackpot winner and the €25 prizewinners were Diane Lavin, E Mary Boland, Fiona Kavanagh and Martin McManus. The jackpot in the latest draw held on April 19, in Hopkins Bar was €13,200.
Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC have elected a new chairperson Sean Egan and he has expressed his delight and honour to take on such a role. Sean stated ‘I just want to say it’s an honour to take on the role as chairman of this club. Before anything else, it’s important to recognise the work of our previous chairman, Neil Corcoran. Over the last two years, Neil has given a huge amount of time, energy and commitment to the club. His leadership has helped drive things forward in a very positive way’.
‘I’m stepping into this role knowing that club is in a strong healthy position, with a great committee, dedicated coaches, and a supportive community behind it. My aim will be simple: to build on the solid foundations that are already in place, support the people involved, and keep the club moving forward’, he concluded.

Nursery Gaelic training at Castleconnor GAA Club returned on Thursday evening last, April 16, for the 2026 season and it continues each Thursday from 6 to 6.45pm at Castleconnor Community Centre. This is suitable for children, both boys and girls, aged 4/5 years. This will be a fun filled introduction to GAA, where they will learn new skills, make friends and enjoy plenty of games.
