Local Notes: Castleconnor Amateur Dramatic Society to stage 'The Country Boy' this weekend

Castleconnor Amateur Dramatic Society are putting the finishing touches to their show 'The Country Boy' by John Murphy, which they will stage at Castleconnor Community Centre on March 15, 16 and 17, with curtains up at 8pm nightly.
The death took place of Rosalie Mitchell nee Campbell, The Glebe, Kilglass, and late of Stradbally, Dungarvan, Co Waterford, peacefully in her 101st year, at Ard na Greine, Nursing Home, in Enniscrone, surrounded by her loving family.
Rosalie was predeceased by her husband Reverend Canon Albert Mitchell (Alfie), her sister Eleanor, and brothers Frank, George and John, and her grandchild Stephen. She was the beloved mother of Daphne Higgins (Easkey), Rosemary (Dublin), Dawn Burrows (Templeboy), Albert (Kilglass) and Christian (Tubbercurry). She will also be sadly missed by her sons-in-law David and Nigel, daughters-in-law Margaret and Sharon, grandchildren Nicola, David, Jonathan, Jordan, Dean, Carolyn, Darelle, Nathan, Ryan, Charlene, and Makayla, great-grandchildren Chloe, Adam, Annabelle, Kiara, Julia, and Thea, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Rosalie reposed at McGowan’s Funeral Home, Ballina, on Monday, March 4, from 8 to 9.30pm and her funeral arrived to Kilglass Church of Ireland on Tuesday afternoon at 2.30pm for a service followed with interment afterwards in the Church Grounds. May she rest in peace.

The vigil Mass on Saturday evening in Enniscrone has changed from 7pm to 8pm for the summer, and it commenced on Saturday, March 2. Enniscrone Church Mass times are: Saturday evening 8pm, Sunday morning 10am, Monday to Friday morning at 9.30am.
Mass time in Kilglass Church are; Sunday 12 noon, Monday to Friday evening Mass at 7pm, and Saturday 12 noon.

The Easkey St Patrick’s Day Parade will commence at 3pm on Sunday, March 17. The organisers are hoping that people will support as it is a great way to ‘Promote Local’ and get your name out there and advertise your business or organisation. There is just a few more days left to plan and make your float, but if making a float sounds too daunting, the organisers have found that a car or van with big signs and balloons and streamers etc on it and children waving flags out the windows, would be enough to add to the excitement.
Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, thank everyone involved in the transition year production of ‘Aladdin and the Lamp’, and the fantastic support they received from the audiences last week. The Student Council extend thanks to the local businesses who supplied prizes for their raffle.

Tireragh CCE are having a general knowledge table quiz on Friday, March 15, at 8pm in The Hilltop, Culleens. They would be grateful if you could support and spread the word about this fundraiser with proceeds towards the upcoming fleadh which will take place in Easkey again this year. The Eoghan Rua Ladies annual dinner dance to celebrate the achievements of 2023 will take place on March 16, so dust off the shoes, and get looking for a dress! Bingo is held in the Old Church, Enniscrone, every Tuesday at 8pm with doors opening at 7pm with free tea and coffee on offer. The proceeds are in aid of Western Gaels Hurling and Camogie Club. All are welcome to come along and support and be in with a chance to win.
The Buggy Buddies programme with Bernie Finley, in conjunction with Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership, meet on Wednesday mornings at 9.45am for a walk at 10am. The cost is €2 per session and the group meet at the Enniscrone Family Resource Centre. There will be indoor activities in the centre if conditions are too wet. All are welcome to come and join for a walk, a cuppa and chat.

Down Syndrome Sligo are looking for volunteer collectors to help support in a church gate collection. The permit is for March 23 and 24. If there is somebody who regularly collects and would like to help out, they would be delighted to hear from you. Down Syndrome Sligo is a small community group who receive no mainstream government funding so they rely heavily on collections like this. Community Day will be held on Saturday, March 16, at 3pm, at Kilglass Community Centre, when they will have the first stage of the new digital hub and community centre opening.
The official opening will be later in the Spring but the committee are inviting the entire community, the generous sponsors, and supporters to come and experience the new centre at a fun and informal community day on Saturday, March 16. Special guest on the day is the talented Tommy Marren from Mid West Radio. This is an opportunity for the community to come together to see and share how the new centre and digital hub can serve the locality and celebrate how far this project has come in the three years since the initial fundraising online St Patrick’s Day concert.
The day will include; fun and games for children, face painting, Ireland’s Six Nations game on the big screen, complimentary party food, information and tours of the building and the services available, speech by Tommy at 3.30pm, music and details of new events and clubs.

The numbers drawn in the lotto which was held on Saturday, March 2, were 3, 4, 16 and 26. Congratulations to Edel Maloney, Denise Cleary and Charlie Kane who matched 3 numbers and won €50 each. David Cadden was the winner of the €50 lucky dip prize. The jackpot in the latest draw which was held on March 9, was €20,600.
Castleconnor Community Games extend congratulations to Rachel Jones who won gold in the County U16 Handball competition, which was held on Sunday, March 3, as did Adam O’Connor. Calvin Foody won silver in the U13 competition and all three will now progress to the National Community Games Finals.
