Fresh from an impressive seven-point victory over near neighbours Mayo Gaels, Ballintubber travel to Claremorris pitch on Sunday next to face East Mayo kingpins Aghamore at 1pm.
This Round 3 game in the Mayo Senior Football Championship is anticipated to be extremely tight. Aghamore were very impressive in drawing with Crossmolina, and they won’t be overawed by the challenge of Ballintubber.
While the Abbey side have been scoring impressively, with 1-23 in each of their last two games, they will not receive the same freedom from the Aghamore defence to do so again on Sunday next.
A cracking game is anticipated and staunch support from the parish is urged for the boys in red and white.
Ballintubber GAA lotto Jackpot stood at €7,700 on Sunday night, August 24, when the numbers drawn were 13, 15, 34 and 36. There was no jackpot winner.
Consolation prizes went to Marie Grealish, Padraig O’Connor, Joseph Conroy, Mary Feeney, John James Fox and John Joyce.

Ballintubber underage teams have enjoyed a mixed week in the Bord na nÓg competitions.
On Monday of last week, the U14s travelled to Charlestown and put up a splendid display to beat Charlestown Sarsfields by 4-12 to 4-9 in a cracking game. However, on Thursday evening last in the Mayo 'A' Championship semi-final, despite Ballintubber leading 0-9 to 1-2 at half-time, Castlebar rallied strongly in the second half and ran out winners on a scoreline of 4-16 to 1-13.
In the U16 'F' Championship semi-final, Ballintubber beat neighbours Castlebar Mitchels by 5-9 to 3-10.
Ballintubber minors overcame a stern challenge from The Neale in the B Championship semi-final, winning on a scoreline of 3-17 to 1-11 in a tremendously entertaining game. Ballina were the opposition in the Minor 'B' Final played at the weekend.
The market held in Ballyglass Community Centre on Saturday last had a nostalgic feel in honour of National Heritage Week.
There was a display of old photos showing the local faces and places from days gone by. There was a great turnout of both locals and visitors, and a lot of happy shoppers sampling the great mix of local produce and craft items.
There were face-painting and balloon making for the kids, as well as the Happy Camper coffee van and the ice-cream man also.
The winner of the top prize of a 'Best of Ballyglass' hamper, including locally produced honey, eggs, jams, chutney, scones, brownies and bread, was Cadhla Corcoran. Katelyn Gill won the 'Back to School' hamper. Other winners were Mary Brennan (whiskey), Kevin Reilly (wine), Mairead Conroy (sweets hamper), Stephanie Gilligan (board game), Niamh Nolan (toiletry set), John Murphy (candle set), Peggy Conroy (cake plate), and Rachel Quinn (storage boxes).

There was no winner of the jackpot in the Ballyglass Lotto draw held on Monday, August 24, in the clubhouse when the numbers drawn were 5, 13, 25 and 27. Nobody matched three numbers.

The Lough CarraLife Project was delighted to take part in a fantastic BioBlitz at Moore Hall on Saturday, August 22, together with the Lough Carra Association (LCCA), their wonderful ambassadors, and River Basin Management Services (RBMS), who also attended on the day.
It was a fantastic opportunity to explore, discover and learn more about the amazing biodiversity and natural heritage of the Lough Carra area. There were lots to see, plenty of interesting information shared, and a great atmosphere throughout the day.
A big thank you to the Heritage Council for sponsoring the event, and to everyone who helped organise and took part, especially all the LCCA ambassadors who gave their time and support on the day.
It was an enjoyable day of learning, sharing knowledge and celebrating the wonderful natural environment around Lough Carra.
The Christian community in the parish welcomes its newest member Caoimhe Conroy, baptised in Holy Trinity Abbey, Ballintubber, on last Saturday, August 29. Congratulations to her parents and family.
A church gate collections will take place at Carnacon Church on Saturday next, September 5, and at Ballintubber Abbey on Sunday, September 6 for the Medjugorje Youth Appeal.
The collections are being held to raise funds to help bring a group of young people to Medjugorje in October. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

The death has taken place of Tommy Lally, Carheen, Tourmakeady.
Tommy passed away peacefully at home, in his 93rd year, on August 24, surrounded by his loving family. His passing is an occasion of great sorrow to his family, relatives, neighbours, and friends who held him in the highest regard.
Pre-deceased by his sisters Mary Heneghan (Chicago) and Bridgie Staunton (Cappaghduff) and his son-in-law Tommy Gardiner (Chicago), Tommy is deeply regretted and sadly missed by his devoted wife Ann, son John, daughters Kathleen Gardiner (Chicago) and Mary Lambe (Chicago), son-in-law Pat Lambe (Chicago), sisters Kathleen and Nora Lally, Park Ridge, Illinois, grandchildren, extended family, neighbours and friends to whom sincere condolences are tendered.
His remains reposed at his residence on Wednesday evening last and Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Mary’s Church, Tourmakeady on Thursday at noon followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Tourmakeady Wood parkrun takes place every Saturday, meeting in the carpark of the wood at 9.30am. This is a timed 5k route. It is a vibrant community event and encourages people of all ages and abilities to get active, enjoy outdoors and connecting with others. It is also completely free!
It's open to walkers, joggers, runners, families and dogwalkers if the dog is on a short leash. All are welcome to participate in this hugely enjoyable weekly event.
The jackpot in the Tourmakeady GAA Lotto stood at €20,000 for the draw on Saturday, August 22. The numbers drawn were 2, 7, 20 and 26, and there was no jackpot winner. David Lally was the online draw winner.

The death has occurred of Elizabeth McNicholas, née Hanbury (better known as Liz) of Kinturk, Ballyheane, Castlebar and formerly of Rosbeg, Westport.
Liz passed away at Mayo University Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Predeceased by her parents Tom (Rosbeg) and Margaret, née Taylor (formerly of Lavally, Tuam), her brothers Johnny (London) Tommy (United Kingdom), sister Margaret (United Kingdom) and son-in-law Cliff Hale, she is deeply regretted by her husband Joe, daughters Louise Hale (Bohola), Siobhan (Castlebar), Alison (Castlebar) and son Joe (Corofin, Co Galway); cherished grandchildren Dylan, Ryan, Lauren, Cathal, Ava, Claire, Rory and Dara; brothers Stephen (United Kingdom) and Billy (Rosbeg), sisters Anne Briton and Caroline Homer (both United Kingdom), daughter-in-law Anne (née McGrath) and Siobhan’s partner Kieran Redmond, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, family circle, neighbours and many friends to whom sincere condolences are extended.
Her remains reposed in Ballyheane Community Centre on Tuesday last with removal later that evening to St Patrick’s Church, Ballyheane for reception and prayers. Funeral Mass took place on Wednesday with burial afterwards in Ballyheane Cemetery.

On Saturday, August 22, Belcarra celebrated its connections with Europe.
It was a European Cultural Celebration and truly a festival of shared heritage with music, dancing, special guests, stories from Belcarra people across Europe, food, refreshments, and plenty of community spirit.
The celebration was all about community, culture, friendship, and the connections shared with people and places across Europe – and it was fantastic to see so many people come together to make the day so special. The community were honoured to welcome the Cathaoirleach of Mayo Co Council Cllr John Caulfield, Minister of State Alan Dillon, Senator Mark Duffy, the Cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District Cllr Ger Deere, leas-Cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District Cllr Cyril Burke and Cllr Donna Sheridan.
A heartfelt thank you was extended to Fr Brendan Kilcoyne and Rev Andrea Wills, the wonderful Parish Choir, and Liam Dever, who added something special to the occasion with the sound of the pipes. Profound gratitude is also due to guest speakers, Catherine Gagneux, Dr Michael O’Connor, and Jean Marc Neyret, who shared their stories and experiences and brought the European theme of the day to life.
There were also fantastic performances from the Turley Duggan School of Dance and Kilkenny School of Music, and wonderful involvement from the local Foróige Club and their leaders.
A special thank you has been extended to everyone living across Europe who took the time to send video messages. Thanks also to Carra Catering for the lovely food and to everyone who came along and supported the event and finally, a huge thank you to the volunteers and Belcarra Community Council, to Mary Fitzgerald for leading the event and Tony Cunningham MC.
The day was a lovely celebration of Belcarra and its heritage, community, and connections with Europe.
In the Junior Tidy Towns project final evening, trash was turned into treasure, participants got creative and made bird feeders, pen and pencil holders, handbags, bees and even a dinosaur planter!
Over the summer, the children learned so much – from the importance of pitching in and helping to keep the village clean to discovering biodiversity and caring for wildlife, as well as planting, potting, and seeing how, with a little care, everything can grow.
The community are so proud of every one of you and all the enthusiasm and hard work you brought each week. The project ended with certificates, some well-earned sweets and lots of smiles!
A huge thank you has been extended to all the parents, volunteers and helpers who showed up week after week and helped make Junior Tidy Towns such a success.
On Monday, August 17, the Lough Carra Catchment Association (LCCA) facilitated a workshop for the partners of the Lough Carra LIFE project in Belcarra Community Centre.
Participants included the LIFE Project team, Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, National Parks and Wildlife Service, Geological Survey Ireland, Coillte, Inland Fisheries Ireland and Teagasc, with the aim of the meeting being to discuss the technical aspects of developing a Lough Carra Catchment Strategy as a first step towards the completion of what is known as the 'AfterLIFE Plan'.
This plan will detail the actions that the existing partners, and others, will undertake once the LIFE project funding ends towards the end of 2027.
Developing the AfterLIFE Plan is an essential step towards ensuring that the excellent work that has been done to reduce the damage to Lough Carra and its catchment environments will not be wasted.

Fresh from their splendid away victory over Belmullet in the second round of the Mayo Senior Football Championship, Breaffy will seek to complete the group stage with maximum points when they face Knockmore next weekend.
However, such are the quirks of the possible outcomes in this extremely competitive group that Breaffy will be aiming for another win or at least a draw to qualify for the knockout stages. The two remaining teams, Belmullet and Knockmore, have just one win in the competition to date, but should both win next weekend it could be down to scoring differences, etc.
Breaffy will want to avoid those possible scenarios and are sure to give their all in pursuit of victory.

Thanks once again to all those who were involved both recently and over the years in highlighting the danger and finally making it happen!
The Tuesday evening walks are proving to be a remarkable success and will continue at 7pm at the Clogher Heritage Complex (F12 PF99).
There are three different lengths of walk to enjoy along the quiet bog roads.
Everybody in Clogher and its environs is invited to come along on Tuesday evenings and enjoy the peace and quiet and flora and fauna of the Clogher Bog, followed by a cup of tea and a chat.
For health and safety reasons, sturdy walking shoes and hi-viz jackets are recommended. The Heritage Cottage is open from Monday to Friday, 10 to 4pm.
