Mountain Access Project

Recently, Minister @heatherhumphreys.td announced the expansion of the Mountain Access Project at a National Outdoor Recreation Conference in Sligo. The Mountain Access Project (MAP) aims to provide clarity of access to a defined upland area based on a voluntary agreement with all the landowners in the area. The Minister has called for Expressions of Interest from upland areas interested in becoming part of this project. Mountaineering Ireland has welcomed this news having been involved in this project since it was first proposed and piloted in the #macgillycuddyreeks. The expansion of the Mountain Access Project provides an opportunity for upland communities to sustainably manage the increasing demand for recreational access in Ireland’s upland areas.

Mountaineering Ireland looks forward to working with other stakeholders, and with local Mountaineering Ireland members, to bring this model of agreed access to fruition in additional areas.

For more information on the Mountain Access Project, visit https://www.gov.ie/.../d7b61-minister-humphreys.../....
