Heartiest congratulations to St Joseph’s Primary School, Ballinrobe, on receiving honours at the VEX IQ World Robotics Championships, which were held in Dallas, Texas. The students taking part received a hero’s welcome upon their return to Ballinrobe, on Sunday week last, May 5.

It was indeed a memorable and historic occasion for the south Mayo school as they are the first ever team from Connacht to be honoured at the prestigious and global VEX IQ World Robotics Championship. St Joseph’s collected the ‘Innovate’ award for their skills in demonstrating an effective and well documented engineering design process for a specific aspect of their team’s design of gameplay strategy.

A group of 10 students from the school made the trip to Dallas, with the school Principal Dymphna Culhane, teachers Edel Roache and Sean Flannelly. Well done to all involved.

Back in March of this year, St Joseph’s Primary School’s VEX Robotics team, comprising the entire fifth class group, emerged triumphant at the National VEX IQ finals held at Munster Technological University (MTU) in Cork. The team clinched the Design and Teamwork Champion awards. Further glory was bestowed upon Ballinrobe at those awards in Cork; as their teacher, Ms Edel Roche, secured the prestigious title of VEX Robotics Teacher of the Year.
