U13A Boys win the Champions Final

The Kilglass Enniscrone Utd U13A boys team were in the champions in Ballisodare against St John’s last week. This was the top tier of U13 football in Sligo/Leitrim and was a fantastic game of football from start to finish with very little between the teams. The KEUFC lads came flying out of the blocks in the first half with Sean Tuffy dominating out left and his cousin Kyle Tuffy a constant menace up front. Cian Corcoran rattled the bar with a shot early on as John’s struggled to contain the KEUFC attack. They then took the lead after 12 minutes when Cian Corcoran ran onto a lovely lofted through ball from Adam Gordon, Cian rocketed a left foot volley from a tight angle to give the Johns keeper no chance. The lads continued to have the better of John’s and were unlucky not to score again, with captain Gavin Healy hitting the bar and Bran Beglanes header coming back off the post.

St John’s came out a different team in the 2nd half and began to impose themselves on the game. They created a number of chances but found the brilliant Eoin O’Connor in top form between the posts. The Kilglass Enniscrone lads looked dangerous on the counter and Oisin Durkan ran through on goals and was held up, but he managed to pull the ball back to Cian Corcoran who dummied onto his left and fired another rocket into the top corner leaving them 2-0 up with 15 minutes to go.

St John’s to their credit pushed really hard, and some good work down the left saw a cross into the box smashed home by Franek Walkowski. It was all John’s at this stage and with 10 minutes to go, and with the KEUFC lads having put in so much, the legs were tiring around the pitch. In a frantic last 10 minutes St John’s hit the bar twice, Eoin making numerous saves and last ditch defending from Conor, Bran, Danny, Rory and Corey kept Johns at bay, and they held out for a brilliant 2-1 win.

The club thank St John’s for a great game and to John Barry, who was excellent in refereeing the match.
