Blath na Féile

This year Blath na Féile will take on a new and different format. The organisers are calling all past Blath’s (everyone who participated, not just crowned Blath’s) to compete in the ultimate Queen of the Blath’s. 2024 is a big year for Síamsa Sráide Street Festival celebrating 40 years and is also the 10th anniversary of the first Blath na Féile winner.

Spring Clean

Swinford Tidy Towns are once again taking part in the National Spring Clean with the annual Good Friday Spring Clean taking place on Friday, March 29. The meeting point on the day will be at Swinford Courthouse at 11am.

Swinford Killasser LGFA registration

Club registration remains open until March 31. If you missed the club's registration open evening you can still register your membership on the GAA Foireann app. If you are having difficulties with the app, contact Carmel Heaney or Trish Smyth.

2024 fees are as follows: adult player: €80, adult non player: €42, juvenile/U18: €70 U-10: €50, U-8: €40, G4MO: €50, nursery (must be 4 by May 1, 2024) €30.

Bundles available: €10 off 2 or more children. Nonplaying members are always welcome to join and support the club throughout the year and join in club events.

Lotto

The numbers drawn in the Swinford Community Lotto draw held on March 11, were were 14, 21, 23 and 25. There was no jackpot winner. €70 vouchers were won by The Tara Cafe Staff, Castlebar and Patrick McPherson, Swinford; €35 was won by Coreen McCree, Derryronane, Jeannie Rowley-Morris, Cloonlumney and Colette Callaghan, Charlestown. The Jackpot is now €11,600.

Killasser/Callow defibrillator

It is proposed to hold First Aid/Defibrillator training sessions for the Killasser/Callow community. The organisers are looking for volunteers who are trained or who would like to be trained in First Aid/Defibrillator use. It is proposed that people would then be on a call list if emergencies occur in the area. Please also indicate if weekend or weeknights suit best for training.

Croi

Swinford Active Minds will host an information morning on Friday, March 22, at 11am in the Cultural Centre with a nurse from Croì in relation to heart disease and stroke.

Golf Card results

Results from the card games played in Swinford Golf Club on March 7. Card winners were Philip Irwin, Margaret Waters, Ann Rowley, Gerry Ronayne, Jason Maughan and William Maughan. Raffle prizes were won by John Gallagher, Carmel Timoney, Mary Callaghan, Noreen Geraghty and Michael Regan. Games continue every Thursday night at 9pm.

Bake Sale

A Bake Sale will be held on Easter Sunday, March 31, in aid of Swinford Agricultural Show. If you would like to help out or bake something for the sale, contact a committee member. Gardening Club

Horticulturist Conor Brennan will give a talk on 'Spring in the Garden' at 8pm on Tuesday, March 26, in the Meeting Room on Lower Main St. He will be happy to answer questions from the audience. All are welcome to attend. Talks are free to members. Non-members €5.

Meelick Card results

Results of the game played in Meelick Community Centre on Tuesday, March 12; card winners were Patricia Rowley, Kieran Rowley, Seamus Conwell, Peter Geraghty, Mary Lynskey and Michael Lynskey. Raffle prizes were won by John Gallagher, Eddie Bredican, Geraldine Turbitt, Esther Munnelly, Michael Regan and Eileen Geraghty. Games continue every Tuesday in Meelick Community Centre at 9pm.

Swinford AC Spring 5k Series

The Swinford AC Spring 5k Series will commence on Wednesday, April 3 in Killasser and will continue until May 8 as follows - April 10 Meelick, April 17 Swinford, April 24 Midfield, May 1 Foxford and May 8 Kiltimagh. Active Retirement

Swinford Active Retirement meet on Mondays in Swinford Cultural Centre from 2 to 4pm for fun, chat, games, bingo, quizzes, demonstrations, speakers and outings. €4 weekly which includes tea, biscuits and cakes. For more information contact Ann 087 7459089 or Bridie 087 9049723.

Swinford Go Getters

Swinford Go Getters meet on the first Thursday of the month from 1.15 to 3.15pm in the Cultural Centre for Activator Pole Walking which helps improve posture. There is also a game or two of Boccie. €4 per day which includes tea and biscuits. Remaining Thursdays there is a walk from 1.15 to 2.15 to help keep active. GAA 50/50

Congratulations to Conor Campbell and Aisling Fraher who were last week’s winners of the Swinford GAA Club 50/50 draw held in Melletts Emporium winning €334. Kilmovee

Fundraiser

Following the fundraising cold water dip at Urlaur lake, which raised over €6000, Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA Club treasurer presented Kilmovee Swimming Pool committee with a cheque totalling €3,003. It was a moment of pride and gratitude, symbolizing the unwavering commitment of both committees to the wellbeing of their community. As the cheque changed hands, the organisers expressed their sincere appreciation to all who had played a part in making the event a success. The cheque presentation was not just a financial transaction, it was a reaffirmation of the strength of community and the power of collective action. And as they reflected on their achievement, there was a shared determination to continue making a positive difference within the community.

Kilmovee 10k and 5k

The Kilmovee 10k and 5k will be taking place on Saturday, March 30, at 1pm and registration is now open at www.kilmovee10k.com. In 2023 over 500 participants were welcomed and the organisers are positive that the 2024 years event will top that number again, as participants enjoy the great course, super scenery and legendary hospitality in Kilmovee. The committee thank all their sponsors who help cover costs meaning more funds goes to Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation and the Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA club. Volunteers would be welcome on the day, and anyone who can help prepare sandwiches, cakes or treats for the post-race hospitality. But most importantly, they look forward to welcoming you to Kilmovee on Easter Saturday as they continue to grow and become a runners, joggers, or walker's favourite each year.

The late Kevin Lynch

The death took place of Kevin Lynch, Castlerea Road, Ballaghaderreen, and formerly of Cloontowart, Lisacul, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, peacefully, surrounded by his family in the wonderful care of the nurses and staff at The Mayo Hospice, Castlebar, on February 24. He was pre-deceased by his parents Jack and Ethel, sister Mary and brother John. Kevin will be sadly missed and remembered by his wife Gertie, sons Kevin, Dessie and Alan, daughters Gena and Lorraine, brothers Paul and Coleman, sisters Winnie and Brenda, grandchildren Jenny, Rachel, Niall, Kevin, David, Daniel, Shane, Catriona, Rebecca, Ryan, Shauna, Aaron, Leanne and Jessica, great-grandchildren Harrison and Éabha, son-in-law Jimmy, daughters-in-law Kathleen, Geraldine and Bernie, sisters-in-law Joan, Cait, Rita and Evelyn, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Kevin reposed in The Sharkey Funeral Home, Ballaghaderreen, on Tuesday, February 27, with removal from his home on Wednesday, February 28, to St Nathy’s Cathedral, Ballaghaderreen, arriving for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon, followed by interment in Kilcolman cemetery.

May Kevin rest in peace as sincere sympathy is extended to all who mourn his passing.

Easter Camp

A one day Easter Camp will be held on Friday, April 5, from 10am-2pm in Bohola Community Centre. It is suitable for boys or girls 6-12 year olds. It costs €20 for one and €35 for 2 siblings and booking is essential. An action packed day of fitness, games, fun challenges and fundamental movement activities is promised. Moy Davitts’ 50th Anniversary Commemorative Book

As part of our 50th anniversary this year, Moy Davitts is compiling a special commemorative book looking back at the five eventful decades of the club’s history. This book will be launched at a special club event later this year.

The committee are on the look-out for material which can be included in the book including old match programmes, press cuttings, articles, team photos, pictures from special trips and events. Or anything you may have relating to the club’s development over the past number of years. National First Aid training
