As the school year drew to a close, all at Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, bid a fond farewell to their wonderful colleague and friend Ms Sandra McLoughlin, who retired after many years of dedicated service.
Sandra was a cherished member of the school community, sharing her knowledge and passion through teaching Adult Education courses, French, English and Business. More recently, she embraced the role of Wellbeing Co-ordinator, bringing energy and creativity to every activity she organised for both staff and students.
Her warmth, positivity and unwavering commitment have left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of working and learning alongside her.
"We wish Ms McLoughlin every happiness, good health and well-deserved relaxation in her retirement. Thank you for everything," said a spokesperson for the school.
LPGA Girls Golf Programme is coming to Enniscrone Pitch and Putt this Summer.
This is a major milestone as it will be only the second LPGA Girls Golf Programme in Ireland. The programme designed to empower and inspire girls aged 7-16 offers a fantastic opportunity to learn new golf skills, build confidence, and make lasting friendships. More details later.
The season came to an end for the U12 boys from Kilglass Enniscrone Utd FC in the cup final against the strongest team in their league.
Unfortunately they were beaten by the better team. This group of players lost only two matches (league and cup) all season and they all improved as the year went on.
On Sunday, June 1, the boys played to the best of their ability, and they were much improved from their league meeting with Yeats Utd. There were saves, goals, headed clearances, and some exciting free-flowing football when they were on the attack. Tom got both goals, both keepers Louis (1st half) and Patrick J (2nd half) made crucial saves to keep the scoreline respectable, clearing headers from defenders Eli and Iarla, midfielders Patrick McS, Sam B and Conor ran till the end, tracking back and bursting forward, Seimi had a blistering run and a couple of very close efforts at goal.
Every single player Dylan, Oran, Huey, Kai, Manaia, Jake, Lorcan, Noah, Matthew, gave it their best effort. The club couldn’t be prouder of the lads. They extend thanks to all the parents and especially the lads for their commitment this season; to the referee for a very fair game and to worthy winners Yeats Utd who went unbeaten in League and Cup this season.
The Enniscrone Kilglass GAA nursery programme is up and running on Saturday mornings. Training continues again next weekend.

Congratulations to TY student from Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, Rodrigo Collado Garcia, who was awarded second place in the art category of the Mary Elmes Prize in Holocaust Studies.
Rodrigo received a book token and a commemorative lapel pin in recognition of his powerful artistic contribution. His work was created as part of religion class with Ms Byrne, where students explored the story of the Holocuast and participated in the Living History Programme.
The Mary Elmes Prize honours the legacy of Mary Elmes, an Irish humanitarian who bravely saved hundreds of Jewish children during World War II by hiding them from Nazi persecution. The competition provides meaningful opportunity to reflect on her courageous actions and the broader lessons of the Holocaust.
The school also applaud the efforts of the other students who submitted impressive entries in literature and history categories, showing great creativity and thoughtfulness. They also extend thanks to Ms Hegarty, art teacher, for her support and guidance in helping Rodrigo develop his award winning piece.
It has been a very busy few weeks at Stokane NS with all students getting involved in lots of activities. The senior classes participated in a Famine workshop in Ballina where they learned about the hardships faced by the tenant farmers and the efforts made by the political figures on their behalf. The junior pupils visited the library where they enjoyed browsing the shelves for books to read and they also experienced the new sensory room.
The whole school was invited to visit a traditional old house owned by the Swift family and it was lovely that they could walk up the road to it. The pupils experienced what life was like 100 years ago, they saw how bread was made on the open fire and got to taste the results.
Third, fourth, fifth and sixth classes participated in a Gaelic Football Blitz which was held in Scarden, Sligo as part of Cumann na mBunscol. They played five matches in total. They boys team won both of their matches and got through to the final.
Taragh from the Edible Landscapes project visited the school for an update on their school garden. With the help of the senior pupils, the area was weeded, dug over and some new planting done. They planted some strawberry plants, chives and some fruit bushes. They are looking forward to tasting the fruits of their labours.
Congratulations to the second class pupils who made their First Holy Communion in Castleconnor Church on May 11. As usual, the children were excellent. They all celebrated with their families afterwards. A party was held for them when they returned to school to acknowledge such an important occasion.
As part of the Art Cluster project, the school has artwork on loan from the Glucksman Gallery lending library based in University College Cork, which is displayed in their hall. The picture they have was created by author Mary Murphy and depicts a family of bears hard at work paw painting and relates to the theme of Family and Identity.
Enniscrone Pier Swim sponsored by Coleman Electronics, in conjunction with Swim Ireland, will take place on Saturday, June 21.
So much has been happening behind the scenes at the patch of land beside St James’s Church, Easkey. Last year, the committee were delighted to learn that Sligo Leader Partnership Company Ltd had funded Easkey Enhancement Association a grant for the community garden to purchase a polytunnel. In order for them to get the biggest one the grant would allow, they decided they would assemble it themselves. The polytunnel arrived in boxes and through hard work, determination and a bit of fun along the way, the polytunnel is up.
The committee of Easkey Community Permaculture Garden have put a call out for some help. They need lots and lots of cardboard and compost to start their no dig beds. Ballina Recycling Centre has a system that if you use the centre you can take away a couple of bags of compost with you. They already have a person who magically drops off bags of compost but they need lots more. They would be so grateful for any help or donations. Just give them a call and they will arrange to collect or just drop them at the garden.
People are also invited to come along and join in to do a little, cheer them on, pull an onion for your dinner and pick a few weeds while you are there, it doesn’t matter, everyone is welcome.
LEAP Project Easkey are thrilled to see that Phase 1 of the Easkey Atlantic Drive has been completed. They extend thanks to Sligo County Council for all their hard work in enhancing the beautiful seashore.
The improvements have made such a positive impact for both the community and visitors alike. The group also extend their gratitude to the ‘Sea and Coast Group’ for their dedication in bringing this project to fruition and they are looking forward to Phase 2 next year.
The First Holy Communion Corpus Christi procession to Our Lady’s Grotto, Easkey will take place on Sunday, June 22, after 10am Mass.
The annual Cemetery Mass will be held on Friday, August 1, at 7pm in Roslea Cemetery and on Sunday, August 3, at 12.30pm at Churchill Cemetery, Dromore West, and Sunday, August 3, at 6pm in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Kilglass/Enniscrone.
