The girls and boys football teams from Scoil Chriost Ri, Enniscrone, have made history by both winning their Sligo Cumann na mBunscol County Finals on the same day – a truly outstanding accomplishment for the school and community.

The journey to county glory was built on months of hard work, dedication, teamwork, and determination. Both teams progressed through the competition with impressive victories over Sooey NS, followed by strong performances against Rockfield NS in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, they overcame a talented Calry NS side to secure their places in the county finals.
On finals day in Markievicz Park, both teams rose to the occasion and delivered memorable performances to claim county titles. Their success is a testament to the commitment, resilience, and sporting excellence they have shown throughout the year.
To have both the boys’ and girls’ teams crowned Cumann na mBunscol County Champions in the same year is a special achievement and one that will be remembered in the history of the school. Everyone is immensely proud of every player who represented Scoil Chríost Rí with such pride, passion, and sportsmanship.

Owenbeg National School, has been awarded the Curious Minds Platinum Award, the highest level of recognition for STEM education by Science Foundation Ireland. This award recognised their year long sustainability project, where pupils explored ways to make a positive impact in the school community and the wider world.

A live baking demonstration with Dee Freney, winner of RTÉ Today’s TV Home Cook 2026 will take place from 2-3pm at Enniscrone Show on Sunday, July 5, in Castleconnor Sports Complex.

Journey back in time to explore plant traditions with palaeoecologist Dr Carla Sa Ferreira, at Kilglass House for a free workshop ‘Getting Back To Our Roots’, on Saturday, August 22, from 2-5pm. The workshop will comprise of a foraging walk in Kilglass House Woodland, learn about traditional herbal remedies, identify edible plants, learn about plant traditions – uses of plants and folklore. Fairy house Handicraft is organising a Summer camp for little artists aged 5-12 in the Old Church, Main Street, Enniscrone, on Monday, June 29 to Friday, July 3, from 10am to 2pm and from Monday, August 3 to Friday, August 7, from 10am to 2pm. Get ready for a jam-packed day of fun for all the little ones at the Enniscrone Show on Sunday, July 5, at Castleconnor Sports Complex. The cost is €5 for an all day pass where you can come and go all day long. The fun will include bouncing castles, face painting, storytelling, balloon modelling, mini messers, beach on the field, mini golf, connect 4 and a variety of games and activities.

The second of the 2, 3 and 5km run series organised by West Sligo AC, took place last night, June 22 in Castleconnor and the 3rd and final run of the series will take place on June 29 at 7pm in Enniscrone where refreshments and prizegiving will take place. It is a run for everyone in the family and the cost is adults €10 and children €5.
The numbers drawn in the Enniscrone combined football clubs draw which was held on Sunday, June 14, were23, 30 and 36 and congratulations are extended to Siobhan and Jack Kilcullen who won the jackpot. The €25 prizewinners were Michael Tuffy, Kenny Roberts, Austin Tuffy and John Kilgannon. The jackpot in the latest draw held on Sunday, June 21, in McNultys Bar was €3000.
Bright Sparks Summer Camp is a week of creative fun including arts and crafts, games, drama and more in a relaxed, friendly environment. The camp takes place at The Old Church, Enniscrone from July 13-17, 10am to 2pm daily. The camp is suitable for children in junior infants to 4th class. Castleconnor Drama Group held their annual general meeting recently and there was some great discussion and deliberating on their shows for the coming year. Officers of the club returned for another year were; chairperson Frank Barrett; secretary Anna Marie McHale; treasurer Marie Sommerville; PRO Tom Tuffy and Enda Geoghegan; assistant treasurer John Bourke; children’s officer Doireann Markham.
Stokane NS celebrated a very special milestone as their wonderful 6th class pupils graduation from primary school. The ceremony was filled with memories and emotions as they looked back on their journey through a beautiful slideshow showcasing highlights from their years at the school. Each of the 6th class pupils stood up and shared their favourite memories and reflections from their time at Stokane NS, reminding everyone of the friendships, achievements and experiences they enjoyed throughout their years. It was an emotional day for pupils, staff and families alike. The whole school came together to celebrate with music creating a wonderful atmosphere throughout the day.
Thanks has been extended to the Parents Association for providing tea, coffee and refreshments, and to everyone who attended and helped make the occasion so memorable. The 6th class pupils are wished every success, happiness and adventure as they begin the next chapter of their education.
