Stunning art exhibition opens in Westport

Former TD and Minister, Michael Ring, officially opened the 'Call of the West' art exhibition in the Clew Bay Hotel on James Street, Westport last Saturday evening, June 20, for local based Irish abstract artist Jenny Grogan.

'Call of the West' is a collection of abstract paintings inspired by the islands of Clew Bay and the quiet beauty of the Atlantic on a still day. Reflecting the shifting waters, changing light, colours and sounds of Ireland’s west coast, each work captures a moment of connection with this unique landscape.

Jenny Grogan, for the first time, also handcrafted the frames for the larger works herself. Jenny has described 'Call of the West' as an invitation to pause, reflect and experience the beauty, depth and spirit of Ireland’s western seascape.

Michael Ring commenced the evening’s proceedings by welcoming everyone and thanking them for attending this wonderful exhibition by a gifted local artist. Michael expressed his delight at being asked to perform the opening and support the growing artist community in the town. He congratulated Jenny on her second solo show in Westport and remarked how wonderful it was to see Jenny showcasing her beautiful work once again in Westport.

Michael outlined the stunning natural landscape that we have here on the west coast and how wonderful it is to see it being captured through art. He called on people to come out and support a local artist’s exhibition in the Clew Bay Hotel. It is open until June 30th.

Michael also commended the proprietors of the Clew Bay Hotel, Darren and Maria Madden, for opening up a space in their hotel for Jenny’s exhibition and for welcoming this exhibition so warmly.
