Hernon brothers mark 50 years of Irish music

The Hernon brothers, PJ and Marcus are celebrating half a century of musical collaboration with their highly anticipated new album,
. The launch took place in Spell's Bar, Ballaghaderreen last weekend.Reflecting on five decades of shared artistry, the Hernons’ latest album invites listeners on a nostalgic journey through time, weaving together traditional Irish tunes and cherished compositions from friends and collaborators.
Speaking about the project, PJ Hernon said: “It’s been great to work with Marcus again on this album and to include some fantastic guest musicians. The album brings together music that has meant a lot to us over the years.”
The brothers’ musical journey began in the early 1970s when Marcus joined PJ for studio recordings that quickly became legendary. Their recording history includes notable albums such as
(1989), , and . After a long hiatus, the Hernons have reunited for this new release, joined by acclaimed collaborators John Carty, Carl Hession, Benny O'Connor, and Marcus's son Breandán Hernon, reigniting their shared passion for traditional Irish music.Recorded at Tom Doherty’s studio in Foxford, the album features a heartwarming selection of reels, jigs, hornpipes, and waltzes, blending treasured traditional tunes with works from composers such as Josie McDermott, Junior Crehan, and Seamus Henaghan. A standout highlight includes the waltzes their father, Páraic Hernon, once played on his melodeon - music that has accompanied the brothers throughout their lives.
