HeritACT Ballina launches series of workshops

HeritACT Ballina, in collaboration with Mayo County Council, has announced a series of participatory workshops aimed at uncovering and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Ballina.
Ever wish your experiences, observations, memories, desires and hopes for the town had a more meaningful and permanent place? All these stories or memories don’t just ‘relate’ to Ballina’s history and heritage; they are an integral part of it.
Led by creative practitioner Fiona Keane, these workshops will provide an engaging platform for community members to connect with Ballina’s unique historical and cultural narrative.
The series will kick off with the first taster workshop on Saturday, February 15th, from 10.30am to 1.30pm, at the HeritHUB, Ballina Library, Pearse Street, Ballina.
The organisers extend a heartfelt invitation to all community members, including retired traders, residents, and students, who have stories or memories related to Ballina’s history. Your unique insights and experiences are invaluable to this project. Whether you wish to share your stories or actively participate in the workshops, your involvement will enrich the collective understanding of Ballina’s heritage.
Further workshops will be held at the HeritHUB on Wednesday, February 19th, 2 to 5pm; Saturday, February 22nd, 10.30am to 1.30pm; Wednesday, February 26th, 2 to 5pm; Wednesday, March 12th, 2 to 5pm; Wednesday, March 19th, 2 to 5pm; Saturday, March 22nd, 10.30am to 1.30pm.
The sessions will explore five key HeritACT sites within Ballina, encompassing categories of special interest including archaeological, architectural, artistic, cultural, historical, scientific, social, and technical heritage. The workshops will include engaging discussions and hands-on activities to bring Ballina’s history to life.
