Enniscrone students take to stage

Cast members of 'Mama Mia, Pappa Mia', which will be staged by the Transition Year students of Jesus and Mary Secondary School in Enniscrone later this month.

Get ready for a dazzling transformation as Jesus and Mary Secondary School in Enniscrone is transformed into a Taverna in Spain. The Transition Year Cast of 2025/26 are all set to take the stage with the original musical, Mama Mia, Papa Mia,  directed and produced by Peter McLoughlin.

Adding extra sparkle to the production are the First, Second and Fifth Year Choir under the baton of music teacher Ms Moore, while the creative dancing is the brainchild of choreographer Ms Sweeney. And while entertainment is the order of the day, there are a few life lessons to be learned along the way, with this modern story addressing the timeless themes of love, friendship, self-discovery and teamwork.

The story, set in 2005, sees widow Laura as the proprietor of a Spanish Taverna where she lives with daughter, Elena. The Taverna is 25 years in business, and to help Laura celebrate, her college friends Sarah, a teacher and Tanya, a famous singer, arrive.

As a surprise, Elena extends the invitation to her mother's other college friends Bill, Mike and Tom. But the self-sufficient and at times stubborn Laura is not as happy as Elena imagined when she is greeted with an impromptu college reunion because she has also managed to keep a very big secret from her former friends. It later turns out that Tanya and Sarah have a few surprises of their own. Throw in Elena’s friends, a handful of Spanish playboys, Tom’s adopted son Mark, his ex-wife Camilla, and the plot thickens! This show is a whirlwind of laughter, music, and talent.

Transition Year co-ordinator and co-producer Ria Loughney praises the show as a testament to the incredible dedication and hard work of the Transition Year students.

“Transition Year in Jesus and Mary is all about teamwork and these students have really worked as a team - from building and painting the set to accessing props and costumes, effectively building on the success of last year’s production, Bella Cinderella."

Principal Ruth Hamilton said: “This is our first ever school musical and is also the first event to mark 85 years since the foundation of the school."

So grab your ticket to Spain and join the Transition Year cast at Jesus and Mary Secondary School on Wednesday and Thursday, January 28 and 29. The curtain rises at 8pm sharp each night, with tickets available at the school.

Don’t miss this unforgettable night of music, comedy, colour, cheeky dancing, song and show-stopping performances!
