Mayo Day will take place on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, a day to celebrate all things Mayo.

Following on from the success of last year's Mayo Day, where events took place right across the county from Belmullet to Tourmakeady, Westport to Ballina, along with the sold-out Grand Finale concert in the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar, Mayo Day is going countywide once more this May.

The theme for Mayo Day 2026 is ‘Mayo – The Connected County’, drawing on the connectivity between our communities at home and abroad, and the spirit of adventure and inventiveness of Mayo people in embracing the future, while not forgetting their past.

Mayo County Council has a limited grant fund available this year to support communities and groups who wish to host their own Mayo Day event on Saturday, May 2nd.

If you are an arts, community, sports group, residents’ associations or educational body and have an idea to celebrate Mayo Day in your local area, please fill out the expression of interest form for the funding and send it to mayoday@mayococo.ie. This is a competitive grant process and funding is limited – so do not delay in getting your application in.

Mags Connell, Administrative Officer, Communications Department, Mayo County Council, said: “Mayo Day has always been one of the highlights of the year. After ten years of hosting a flagship event in one location, last year we decided to open up the day countywide and bring it on the road.

“We had over 20 fully inclusive free events spread right across the county, where there was something for everyone and the feedback from both event organisers and the public was fantastic.

“This year we have a limited grant fund available for organisations and groups who want to put on their own Mayo Day celebration that will connect with their locality and attract visitors to come along as well.”
