Cine Club returns to Ballina Arts Centre

The Cine Club at Ballina Arts Centre opens its Autumn season on Thursday, September 10, with .
Jim Jarmusch’s anthology film, which won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival, depicts three very different family reunions. In the United States, a brother and sister visit their reclusive father. In Dublin, two sisters receive their occasional invite to lunch with their famous mother. And in Paris, two siblings reunite following the sudden death of their parents.
The film is directed by Jim Jarmusch and stars Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Charlotte Rampling, Indya Moore, and Luka Sabbat.
Made in 2025, it was rated four stars by who described it as “a deeply pleasing and gently quietist triptych on the subject of family".
The Cine Club will feature a new film each month on Thursdays at 7.30. See the website for details of upcoming viewings on October 8, November 12 and December 17.

In the meantime, on Saturday, September 5, Christine Tobin’s new band The Unforeseen will visit the centre. This group of internationally renowned musicians include Irish, BBC award-winning, singer-songwriter Christine Tobin on vocals, and UK musicians Karen Street on piano accordion, Phil Robson on guitar, and Dave Whitford on double bass.
The Unforeseen’s exciting and diverse repertoire ranges from their own original tunes to adaptations of music by Duke Ellington, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and Tango legend Astor Piazzolla, as well as classic Irish trad ballads such as Cuirt Bhaile Nua; and music from Baroque composer Henry Purcell and Brazilian maestro Milton Nascimento.
has described their sound as "starkly beautiful, and Tobin’s voice, filled with humanity and warmth, draws it all together perfectly". has said: “Tobin’s 24-carat voice is gorgeous, affecting and deeply human."
