A call-out for volunteers has been made ahead of this weekend’s Wild Atlantic 10 Miler Event in Ballina.

The seventh annual 10-mile road race, organised by Ballina Athletics Club, takes place this Sunday, August 16, with around 200 participants expected to take part.

The race starts on Belleek Castle Road, and walkers will set off at 10am, followed by runners at 11am.

The scenic route will take participants along the River Moy, through Belleek Woods and onto the Monasteries of the Moy Greenway before finishing at Ballina AC.

Organisers have put out a request for volunteers to help make the event a success.

There is no need for volunteers to commit to the full day, with the work divided into four time slots. People can choose a time slot or two that suits them, or lend a hand throughout the day if they are available.

The first slot, from 9.15am to 10.45am, will involve helping with race set-up, including putting up barriers and getting everything ready for participants.

Volunteers are needed from 11am to 1pm to help serve tea, coffee and sandwiches to participants.

Between 12pm to 1pm, a helping hand will be needed to guide runners and walkers through Belleek Woods as they approach the finish line.

The final volunteer slot runs from 1pm to 2pm and will involve taking down barriers and with the clean-up after the event has finished.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact the Mayo Volunteer Centre on 096 71444.

“It’s a great way to support a fantastic local sporting event, meet people and be part of the race-day atmosphere,” the centre said.
