Tony is Mayo AC’s best in Athenry

Athletics: Athenry AC hosted the 21st edition of the popular Fields of Athenry 10k on St Stephen’s Day.

This year’s winner was John Travers from Donore Harriers AC in exactly 30:00, still some 28 seconds short of the course record set by Ballina AC’s Hugh Armstrong in 2019. The women’s winner was Alice Goodall from Edinburgh AC in 34:12.

There was great running by Mayo AC’s ten finishers among the field of 1481, including personal bests by Tony O’Malley and Caitlin Woods, and also by Colette Tuohy who won the women's over-50s prize. They were: 65th, Tadhg Hanrahan M40, 37.11; 66th, Tony O’Malley M50, 37:15 pb, 3rd o50; Gerry Kirrane M40, 38:34; Colette Tuohy 40:12, 1st W50; Ray Clarke M50, 40.27 pb; Johnny Cribbin M60, 41.38;
