After eight gruelling rounds, Islandeady boxer Ray Moylette emerged successful on points against Facundo Arce on Sunday night at Once Upon A Time In The West in the TF Royal Hotel & Theatre.
Moylette had been knocked down to the canvas in the second round by the ferocious Argentine fighter but hauled himself back up. Backed by a fervent hometown crowd, ‘Sugar’ Ray dug deep and emerged victorious in an extremely tight fight. It ended 76-75 on points to the Mayo man.
In the evening’s main event, two-time WBC heavyweight champion and boxing superstar Dillian Whyte made his return to the ring against Christian Hammer. By the end of the third round, Hammer was no longer able to continue and Whyte was declared the winner.
The undercard was also packed with excellent fights. Craig ‘The Iron’ O’Brien needed all six rounds to win on points against Remi Scholer while Sofiane Khati had a narrow victory over eight rounds against ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan.
Two undercard fights were over almost as soon as they began; Thomas Carty won via TKO against Pavel Sour 40 seconds into the second round while 2 minutes, 54 seconds was the time it took for Daniel O’Sullivan to extend his winning record to 4-0 against Czech fighter Martin Balog.
