Swinford: Butterfly Garden win special award at Pride of Place Awards
 Congratulations to the members of The Butterfly Garden, recipients of a Special Award at the IPB Pride of Place Awards 2023 in Armagh. It is fantastic to see their hard work and dedication recognised on a national platform. Well done to all involved.

The Turf Shed, Killasser, will host a table quiz on Saturday, November 25, at 8pm. Proceeds from the quiz will go towards the senior parishioner’s Christmas dinner.
Weekly Card Games in the Golf Club continue every Thursday at 9pm.
Monday night card game continues in Killasser Community Centre at 8pm. All welcome including beginners.
Plans are in place to renovate and refurbish the old weighbridge building at Lower Brookville Avenue, Swinford. Efforts are being made to find out the history of the weighbridge and any stories about this historic piece of the town’s history would be particularly welcome. Coolegrane Lights will be switched on Friday, December 8, at 7pm. All proceeds this year will go to Mayo/Roscommon Hospice Palliative Care Service.
A Christmas spectacular in Knock Basilica on Friday, December 1, with an evening of songs of faith, hope and love, and Christmas. The event will feature Margo, Philomena Begley, Donna Taggart, John McNicholl and Marc Roberts. Also featuring are Una Nolan and Schola Cantorum Basilicae. The annual two-day Christmas Market will take place on Saturday, December 2 and Sunday 3rd from 10.30am to 4pm in the Cultural Centre.
The Butterfly Garden is organising the Light of Love this year in the lead up to Christmas. It will be possible to sponsor a Light of Love in memory of someone who has passed away or in honour of someone going through a tough time due to illness, bereavement etc. All names for which lights are sponsored are entered into a special register and will be remembered at the Light of Love Mass on December 22, at 10am in Swinford Church. The Light of Love Christmas Tree will be lit up in early December on a date to be confirmed.
All proceeds in aid of The Butterfly Garden Maintenance Fund.

Congratulations to Euan O’Grady who was the October winner of the Killasser Community Centre 50/50 draw winning €600. €20 spot prizes were won by Frank Heaney and Beatrice Goldrick. The November Draw will be held on Saturday, December 2.
The Swinford Meals on Wheels committee thank both collectors and contributors to their recent church gate collection in Swinford, Meelick and Midfield. A total of €893 was raised which will assist with the successful continuation of the meals on wheels service for the coming year.
Swinford and District Gardening Club have postponed, with regret, to a later date their previously advertised flower demonstration for December 5.

The death occurred of Tom Colgan, late of Ballinlag, who died in Ballinamore Nursing Home on Monday, November 13. He was the brother of John, Ballinlag and Noel, Clooneen. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved.
