Sarah Healy finished 10th in the final of the women's 1500m in the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, with a time of 3:59.14.

The race was won by Faith Kipyegon, the world champion and world record holder in 3:52.17.

Cian McPhillips put in the race of his life as he won his heat to qualify for the semi-finals of the 800m.

The 23-year-old won the race with a time of 1:44.91 against a stacked field with American Bryce Hoppel coming in second in 1:45.09 and Jamica's Tyrice Taylor in third in a time of 1:45.13.

He will be joined in the semi-finals by Mark English, who came third in his heat. with a time of 1:45.13 behind Emmanuel Wanyonyi of Kenya in 1:45.05 and Italy's Francesco Pernici in 1:45.11.

Sharlene Mawdsley finished in eighth in 51.22, leaving her 20th overall.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone powered to victory in that semi-final in a stunning 48.29. Mawdsley will be back in action later this week in the women’s 4x400m relay.
