Shamrock Rovers season opener vs Dundalk called off due to waterlogged pitch

The pitch at Tallaght Stadium is waterlogged and failed an inspection on Friday morning, so Shamrock Rovers' opening match of their title defence against Dundalk has been postponed.
In a statement on X, Rovers said: "Tonight's game has been postponed after the pitch at Tallaght Stadium failed a pitch inspection. A new date for this fixture will be confirmed in due course."

As things stand, Derry City's opener against Sligo Rovers at the Ryan McBride Brandywell has gotten the green light to go ahead.
Boss Tiernan Lynch has recruited well, with the additions of James Clarke, Darragh Markey, and brothers Patrick and James McClean.
Michael Duffy says it has brought a real boost. That match will now kick off at 8pm and will be broadcast on Virgin Media Two.
Also on Friday evening, Shelbourne are on the road to Waterford, while at Eamonn Deacy Park, Galway United play host to Drogheda United.
Those fixtures get underway at 7:45pm.
