What was your local sporting highlight of 2024?

It was some year for my native Belcarra between the heron and the handball, the latter referring to Cuilleann Bourke winning gold at the World Wallball Championships.

What was your national or international sporting highlight of 2024?

Euro 2024. The emergence of a new wonderkid in the sport, Lamine Yamal for Spain/Barcelona, was exciting to watch play out.

How many points do you think a goal should be worth in Gaelic Football?

Three.

As David Moyes once said in his Man United days: “We must improve in a number of areas, including passing, creating chances and defending.”

Cork. 

What is the last sport you played or took part in?

Have taken up cycling in the last few weeks.

Most famous athlete you have met in real life?

Shay Given.

What was your Paris Olympics 2024 highlight?

Team Ireland had some tremendous success but in terms of sheer entertainment, it was hard to beat the Aussie breakdancer ‘Raygun’.

Who will be sacked first – Mikel Arteta or Ruben Amorim?

Amorim, within the next 24 months.

Who will win the World Darts Championship?

Luke Littler.

Will Noel and Liam Gallagher be the only Mayo men to play a big day out in Croke Park next year?

If they can work together, communicate effectively and deal with their internal issues, I expect Oasis to make it to Croke Park next year. Mayo, not so much.

What local club player would you like to see get their opportunity on the Mayo panel in 2025?

The Damned United.

With MacHale Park opening up to other sports being played there, what sport or event should take place next at the home of Mayo GAA?

An open day where the pitch is split up into different segments and kids get to try out different field sports – could be in conjunction with An Sportlann.

What sport do you intend to watch more of in 2025?

Formula 1.

Will Liverpool stay the course and win the Premier League or lose out?

As poor as they have been, Man City are still within touching distance with less than half of the games played. They are inevitable, and Pep surely has some trick up his sleeve.

Now they are both past the peak of their powers, settle it once and for all – Ronaldo or Messi?

One to watch in 2025 from any sport?

Gout Gout, a 16-year-old Australian sprinter who just ran the 200m in 20.04 seconds, which is better than current WR holder Usain Bolt was at that age. Google the name if you don’t believe it!

Make one bold prediction for 2025 (any sport)?

Gaelic Games will make a significant stride towards becoming (officially) a professional sport.
