As the proud principal of St Muredach’s College, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to our talented and dedicated players on their crowning as All-Ireland senior ‘B’ basketball champions last Tuesday. This achievement is as a testament to their commitment and coach Barry Murphy’s dedication to training throughout the year. Their hard work and resilience have not only secured a historic win but have also exemplified the values instilled in them on a daily basis – acting courageously, with integrity, honesty, and loyalty.
A special acknowledgement goes to our sponsor, Tile Superstores, whose generous support at the inception of the campaign ensured our boys had the proper kit to compete at the highest level. Thanks also to Ronan McGarrity and Maven Financial for their support with the purchase of basketballs for the finals. The collaborative effort of Ballina Braves Basketball Club and their coaches who have been instrumental in shaping our team's skills and capabilities over the past decade. We appreciate the contribution of Ballina Braves for not only providing crucial support and training but also granting us access to their facilities for matches.
Thanks also to the Board of Management, the Parents Association, the players’ families, and community members who turned out in full force to welcome the team home on the evening of this monumental achievement. A special thank you to everyone who attended the post-victory refreshments, celebrating the success together as one proud St Muredach’s College family. The Parents Association rallied once the news broke in order to ensure everything was prepared.
Our school staff played an integral role in preparing the facilities for the team's homecoming, ensuring a warm and festive welcome. Thanks to all the staff members who continue to go above and beyond to develop the college. A sincere thanks to Adrian Tuffy, the lead prefect of the Student Council and the other members, for organising the celebratory bonfires at the school. The Ballina Gardai deserve our gratitude for their escort ensuring a safe return for the team.
Our supporters at the National Basketball Arena were outstanding on the day. The atmosphere was electric and we recognise that such opportunities are perhaps once in a generation. However, we want to harness this success and channel our efforts towards achieving similar milestones in the years to come. We extend our gratitude to everyone who sent their best wishes through our school's new LinkedIn page.
Additionally, we warmly welcome all our past students and friends of the college to join our newly established Alumni Society, connecting past and present members of our school community.
Once again, congratulations to our U19 basketball team on this outstanding achievement. Your hard work, dedication, and skill have made our school community immensely proud. Here's to the champions of today and the inspirations for generations to come!
