Sports briefs: Connacht finals all set for Kiltoom

Fierce rivals Galway and Mayo will contest the Connacht LGFA Senior Championship final on Sunday, May 12.
LGFA: The 2024 Connacht LGFA TG4 Championship Finals have been confirmed as taking place on Sunday, May 12 at St Brigids GAA Club, Kiltoom, Co. Roscommon. The double header will see Mayo and Galway contest the senior final first at 2pm followed by the intermediate final at 4pm between Leitrim and Roscommon.
Soccer: There were great celebrations across South Mayo last week as the senior girls of Ballinrobe Community School were crowned FAI Schools Connacht Girls Under 20 Senior League champions.
Taking on Coláiste Éinde of Salthill at the home of Moyne Villa in Headford last Tuesday, the Ballinrobe students swept aside their Galway opponents by six goals to one.
Golf: Seamus Diskin’s 36 points were enough to see him win the Martin Murphy Newsagents-sponsored 18-hole stableford at Ballinrobe Golf Club. It was the same score as runner-up Rory Bane with Diskin winning courtesy of the b est back nine holes.
Norman Molloy won the gross prize on 27 points while the category prizes went to 1. Padraig Munroe 34pts; 2. John Curry 36; 3. Declan Costello 36; Front 9, David Slattery 20; Back 9, Tom Conlisk 19.
The ladies stableford winner was Helen Healy on 30 points with the categories won by 1. Marian Scully 24pts; 2. Breda Keane 29; 3. Ann Marie Mulvey 22; Front 9, Mary Daly 15; Back 9, Sarah Staunton 14.
Golf: Janny Pilbrow scored 43 points to emerge as a clear winner of the TA Group-sponsored 18-hole stableford at Claremorris Golf Club. The category winners were: 1. Paul Kenna 37pts; 2. Kevin Heneghan 39; 3. Jurgen Pilbrow 41; 4. Pat Connaughton 38. The ladies category winner was Mary Collins on 32 points.
Soccer: A trio of delayed games from Round 1 of this season’s Elverys Sports Mayo Super League are to be played this coming Thursday evening, April 25.
Ballina Town welcome Kiltimagh Knock United to Belleek while Westport United have the home advantage for their clash with Ballinrobe Town. Defending Super League champions Castlebar Celtic are also at home for their game against the division’s newcomers Crossmolina.
All three games will kick-off at 6.30pm, as will the outstanding Premier League Round 3 clash of Ballyheane ‘B’ and Ballyglass at Pat Quigley Park.
