The 2025 Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards take place on Saturday, February 7 at Breaffy House Resort.

The list of triumphs behind her name proves that Shannon Burke is the best female amateur golfer in Ireland.

The 30-year-old Kilmaine native, a member of Ballinrobe Golf Club, began her 2025 season with victory at the Leinster Women’s Championship before she ended a 13-year wait for a maiden Connacht Women’s Championship in Bearna. She followed that up by finishing the season in style with a convincing victory in the Munster Women’s Senior Championship as well as winning the Mid-Amateur Women’s Open Championship. Were it not for a holiday after her Connacht title win, which meant having to miss competing at the Ulster Championship, it is not unreasonable to suggest that the Mayo woman could easily be the holder of all four provincial titles.

As well as representing her country at the European Mid-Amateur Championships in Spain, Shannon Burke also demonstrated her team qualities at the AIG Women’s Senior Cup. Currently living in Cork, where she works as a lecturer at MTU Cork, she played for Douglas Golf Club who she helped defend their national club title.

The 2025 Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards take place next Saturday, February 7, at Breaffy House Resort. The special guest for this year’s awards function is Kerry GAA legend Tomás Ó Sé.

Tickets for the gala presentation banquet, which includes a drinks reception, a four-course meal, the awards ceremony and entertainment, are priced at €70pp and are on sale to the general public.
