The opening ceremony of Paris' Olympic Games takes place today, Friday, July 26 (6.30pm - Irish time).

Team Ireland have sent 133 competitors to this year's Olympics - their largest-ever squad.

Among the team are several Olympians from the west of the country, including two with Mayo connections.

Galway (4) 

Aifric Keogh (Rowing), Fiona Murtagh (Rowing), Beibhinn Parsons (Rugby), Tom Fannon (Swimming).

Sligo (4) 

Lauren Cadden (Athletics), Chris O'Donnell (Athletics), Dean Clancy (Boxing), Mona McSharry (Swimming).

*Mayo (2) 

Eric Favors (Athletics), Ciara McGing (Diving).

Roscommon (2) 

Aoife O'Rourke (Boxing), Kelly Murphy (Cycling).

London-born Ciara McGing, who has family connections in Mayo, will compete in diving. Her category will take place between August 5-6.
