Major fallout in Mayo soccer leaves sport in turmoil
A big fallout in Mayo soccer circles is causing major ramifications for the Mayo Football League and Mayo FC, the has learned.
In an email circulated to clubs affiliated with the Mayo Football League, which has been seen by the , the Mayo Football League Management Committee has said that ‘Mayo FC will no longer be permitted the use of Umbro Park Milebush’ due to a breakdown in negotiations over a pricing agreement with Mayo FC for the use of the Umbro Park pitches.
The league’s last proposal to Mayo FC over a pricing agreement, also seen by the , was also circulated to clubs.
Mayo FC were recently announced as one of the founding clubs that will form the new FAI National League third tier, which kicks off in the autumn. As things stand, this decision leaves Mayo FC without a place for their teams to train and play their games for the upcoming 2026 season.
The also understands that the decision has created a major conflict with the League Management Committee of the Mayo Football League, with two members of the committee being asked to step down.
Spokespersons for Mayo FC and the Mayo Football League have both declined to comment on the matter.
