Limited tickets remain for 2024 Western People Sports Awards

The 2024 Mayo Sports Stars will receive their awards at a gala banquet on Friday, February 21, 2025 in Breaffy House Hotel.

There is just over a week remaining until the 2024 Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards which are to be held at Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar next Friday, February 21.

Since their inception in 1970, the Mayo Sports Stars Awards have been honouring sportspeople from the county who have excelled across a wide and diverse range of sports – and 2024 offered another exceptional year of achievement on World, European and National stages.

As revealed in January, the recipients of the 2024 Western People Mayo Sports Stars Awards are as follows:

Athletics – Hugh Armstrong (Ballina AC) 

Basketball – St Muredach’s College, Ballina 

Boxing – Shannon Sweeney (St Anne’s BC, Westport) 

Club of the Year – Breaffy GAA Rounders 

Community Award – Erris Darts 

Golf – John William Burke (Ballyhaunis GC) 

Gaelic football – Ryan O’Donoghue (Belmullet) 

Handball – Joe McCann (Ballaghaderreen), Cuileann Bourke (Belcarra), Shane Heraty (Aughagower), Lorcan Conlon (Bofield) 

Hurling – Liam Lavin (Tooreen) 

Merit – Carlagh Peake (Ballyhaunis BC) 

Pool – Mayo U23s: Padraic Coyle (Doohoma), Adam McAndrew (Pullatomas), Danny Feehan (Westport), Dermot Kelly (Killawalla), David Doocey 

Rugby – Ailish Quinn, Grainne Moran, Emily Foley (Ballina RFC) 

Soccer – Mayo U15 Schoolgirls 

Snooker – Darren Flaherty (Ballina) 

Special Achievement – Carol Commons (Killala) 

Team of the Year: Castlebar Celtic 

Track and Field – Philip Griffith (Claremorris AC) 

Volleyball – St Louis’ CS, Kiltimagh 

Sports Personality – Oisin Joyce (Lake District AC) 

Young Sportsperson of the Year – Pearse Gallagher (Swinford AC) 

Hall of Fame – Deora Marsh (Ballina).  

The 2024 Mayo Sports Stars will receive their awards at a gala banquet on Friday, February 21, 2025 in Breaffy House Hotel. The function includes a drinks reception, a three-course meal, wine, special guest, the awards ceremony and entertainment.
