Norah Newcombe Pieterse led the Mayo AC runners home with a brilliant win in the 38th annual Streets of Galway 8k Road Race last Saturday evening.
Norah, a former winner of the Western People Mayo.ie Women’s Mini-Marathon, has a great record in this race – third in 2023 in a new Personal Best of 28:40, and in 2019 she finished 4th in 29:05. Norah has not raced very often this year, but she did show excellent form back in late March when she won bronze W40 in the National 10k in 37:04.
She was delighted to finally win the race this evening crossing the line at the Claddagh in 30:15. Second was Ciara Foy 30:19, third Kate Collins Smyth 30:57.
The race starts at The Claddagh and winds its way through the city’s streets, following a course out around Salthill, before taking in the promenade on the way to the finish in at South Park. There were over 2,600 finishers in a warm and sunny atmosphere in the city of Tribes.
Well done to Mayo AC’s other finishers: Tony O’Malley 30:00, which is a new 8k pb, Gvido Roze 34:53, Dee Finnegan 35:59, Ann McDonnell 36:42, Karen Devaney 39:53.
The race winner was David McGlynn of Waterford AC with an impressive time of 23:43.
