High drama in Doolough for cross country runners

The course situated beside the beach in Doolough made for a spectacular setting for the Mayo Even Ages Cross Country Championships, which took place in excellent conditions for late September. Picture courtesy of Erris AC.
Athletics: The Westnet Mayo Even Ages, Junior, Senior and Masters Cross Country Championships was hosted by Erris Athletic Club at Doolough, Geesala on Sunday September 22. Weather conditions were ideal and underfoot competitions perfect. The course was on sand dunes within a few feet of the magnificent Doolough beach looking toward Achill. Many of the athletes finished off the day with a post-race sea swim.
Athletes travelled from all corners of Mayo to compete, some of whom were newcomers to athletics on the day while others were there to give it their all and qualify for the Connacht Championships.
Erris Athletic Club did an excellent job hosting the event and those who officiated ensured a smooth running of the competition.
Participations medals were presented to all the U8 and U10 boys and girls who competed.
