Geraghty and Long win 10 mile race in Ballina

Athletics: A record 172 finishers completed the Wild Atlantic 10 mile race held in Ballina last Sunday, August 18. The race start was at Belleek Castle Road and the finish was at Ballina AC track with the route taking in Belleek Woods and the Moy Greenway.

The first man home was Stephen Geraghty in 55:11 while winner of the women’s race was Ciara Long who crossed the line in 59.55. She was followed by Norah Newcombe Pieterse in 1:06.50 and Colette Tuohy who finished third in 1:08.57, winners of the W45 and W55 categories and two of 12 Mayo AC entrants to complete the race.

This was the sixth annual staging of the Wild Atlantic Ballina 10 Mile and the other Mayo AC competitors to take part were: Johnny Cribbin, 2nd o60 in 1:09.22 (a three minute improvement on 2023); Donna Gallagher, 1st W40 and 4th woman in 1:11.57; Ray Clarke, M50, 1:13.35; Paraic Sweeney, 1st M70, 1:15.09; Dee Corcoran, 1:22.46; Mags Glavey, 1st W70, 1:23.12; Caitlín Woods, 1:30.53; Justin McDonagh, 1:32.16; Claire Murphy, 1:48.40; Regina Kiernan, 2nd W60, 1:49.50.
