Crossmolina and Moy Davitts will have to do it all again next weekend in the Mayo intermediate final after a grandstand finish in Castlebar this afternoon, finishing 1-12 apiece.
The Deel men got the dream start with a Niall Coggins goal inside 12 seconds while James James Maheady put on an exhibition of point scoring in the first half, hitting three spectacular points with the aid of the breeze as they led 1-8 to 0-6 at half-time, with Cian McHale keeping the Moysiders in the game with four frees.
Maheady and Fionan Duffy kept Crossmolina on top, with responses coming from Brian Reape and Cian McHale. Things looked bleak for Moy Davitts as moments after Kevin Mulhern got a black card, Jack Dunleavy also was sinbinned while Conor Reid was dismissed after picking up a second yellow card on 58 minutes.
However, Brian Heneghan was on hand to find the net, getting on the end of a rebound after Brian Reape’s flick came back off the post before McHale hit his ninth point of the afternoon with a nerveless free to force a replay next weekend.
