Donnelly leads the way as locals tough it out in Turlough

Athletics: There was a large turnout of runners, joggers and walkers at the National Museum of Ireland at Turlough Park for the 13th annual Turlough 8k on Sunday, February 16.
Parke-Keelogues-Crimlin GAA, Parke Keelogues Crimlin LGFA, Mayo AC, the National Museum of Ireland at Turlough Park and Mayo Mental Health Association all partnered to promote this annual event.
The challenging 8k course starts and finishes in the grounds of Turlough Park, passes by Turlough Round Tower and goes on through Parke and Turlough, returning via Turlough village to the finish line at Turlough House.
Stephen Donnelly from Ballina was the winner of the senior men’s race while Colette Tuohy of Mayo AC was the fastest female on the day.
Running conditions were favourable and some excellent times were recorded. There was a large turnout of runners, including many club athletes from Mayo AC, joggers and walkers – 423 in total – ensuring the event was a great success.
Prizes were awarded as follows: 7 Senior men – 1, Stephen Donnelly, Ballina 28:11; 2, Michael Rocke, Mayo AC 30:50; 3, Trevor Moore 32:27.
Senior women – 1, Colette Tuohy, Mayo AC 33:13; 2, Eimear Fitzmaurice, Mayo AC 33:56; 3, Bernie Hughes 35:46.
O50 men – 1, Garrett Bracken 30:39; 2, David Sands 30:50; 3, Johnny Cribbin, Mayo AC 32:27.
O50 women – 1, Ruth Carney, Mayo AC 37:13; 2, Margaret Naughton 43:01; 3, Marie Conner 43.29.
U18 boys – 1, Darragh Reynolds 28:45; 2, Matthew Kelly, PKC GAA 31:34; 3, Fiachra Gardner 31:53.
U18 girls – 1, Pearl Sands 38:33; 2, Yaeli Masselis 38:49; 3, Maria Torquemada 41:12.
