Corrigan crowned society’s Golfer of the Year

Golfer of the Year PJ Corrigan, left, with St Muredach's Society captain Chris Brett.
The St Muredach’s Golf Society in Dublin was treated to the perfect conditions of a crisp autumn morning at the beautiful Woodenbridge golf course in County Wicklow for its Captain’s Day on Sunday, October 20.
Set up in 1982 by alumni of St Muredach’s College in Ballina, the St Muredach’s Golf Society offers ex-alumni, friends, family and anyone from the region now living in Dublin the opportunity to join and participate in numerous social golfing fixtures throughout the year.
The alumni gathered in strong numbers to celebrate their annual Captain’s Day, hosted by Chris Brett, who enjoyed a fantastic year as captain, welcoming several new members to the society and organising an array of excellent courses and camaraderie throughout the year.
The day would also decide on the hotly contested Golfer of the Year with several golfers, PJ Corrigan, Pat Caden, John Fergus, and Pat McManus, all within striking distance of taking the prestigious trophy from last year’s standout golfer, Garret Lally.
With some excellent golf on display, Eddie Melvin’s striking and Terence Salmon’s putting included, none could keep up with the two standout golfers of the day, Michael Barrins and Peter Keane. Teeing together, the pair battled each drive and putt majestically.
The day was ultimately won by Michael Barrins, who held his nerve to ensure victory on the final hole. PJ Corrigan did just enough to claim the Golfer of the Year title despite exceptional pressure and splendid golf from runner-up Pat Caden.

The St Muredach’s Society in Dublin wishes to thank every golfer who joined them throughout a very successful year. They also appreciate the work done behind the scenes by president Pat Caden, treasurer Kieran Duffy, captain Chris Brett and PRO John Fergus. The society, more than 40 years in existence, warmly welcomes all golfers, whether past pupils of Muredach’s or not, regardless of skill level, to join us for the 2025 season.
